Exactly. The alien was full of gas which was combustible.

Which was demonstrated when she saw the gas explode moments earlier, when it was being sprayed over the burning bunker.

Do you know what Molotov cocktail is? Hint: it isn't whiskey.

But Molotov cocktails are filled with gasoline or some other fuel. Not whisky! (whisky is mostly water, and water isn't really all that flammable 😉 )
You can read about them here (rather than basing all your knowledge on what you've seen in movies!)
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov_cocktail
If you had bothered to read my post you would have seen that I said "booze" (which was what she was using) would not explode. It would barely even catch fire unless heated.
Anyway, FWIW I thought the movie was great. I was merely responding to the OP who was asking what was wrong with that particular scene. In my opinion it was just about the only dumb thing about an otherwise excellent movie.
My God, it's full of stars!

You you do realize Molotov cocktails aren't ACTUAL cocktails right? She used wine in the film so it wasn't a Molotov cocktail.

"Molotov cocktails do explode, they did massive damage to tanks in ww2 and beyond. "
                  LOL
Yes, because they are filled with gasoline, you extreme super-genius.
"This scene was explained multiple times I am still amazed that people dont understand it."
                  double-lol!
Why is it that those who are the most dense, are also the ones who are so "amazed" that others cannot grasp the concepts which are so easily understood by them?
I think the term "So dumb, that they don't realize they are dumb" applies pretty damn often.

look up a flaming b52. a lit paper half dipped in that proof will keep a constant fire going. Throw that sucker into the belly of the beast that's been spewing highly combustible green fart gas and then you get an explosion. Pay attention and try to keep up next time will ya?

                        Right!!!!
Everyone is so stupid! Obviously the bottle came into contact with the mechanics of the UFO and that's what caused it to blow up. It's really that simple to understand. It baffles me that people struggle to comprehend something sooooooo simple.

You're comparing the durability of a WW2 tank to an extraterrestrial ship that needs to be durable enough for interstellar travel.

Drinks burn over 51%. No need for being heated. I assume there are some whiskies in the USA with an alcohol content of 51%

Actually it's hard to notice, but the "martian lizard" on the ground caught fire easily after it touched some of the residue flames (from the bunker explosion). It would then make sense that even a small flame might trigger the big flying thing explosion.

Agreed. It's like in War of the Worlds. There are people who have figured out ways to combat them and have survived.

I don't have a problem with the alien being combustible (not a spaceship), but it was a total Mary Sue moment. Someone who wants to design dresses is whipping up Molotov cocktails in 5 seconds flat.

You're kidding, right? She's shown has having survival instincts throughout the WHOLE movie. She discovers she's locked up, she makes a makeshift shiv with her crutch. She realises how dangerous Howard is, she tries to steal his keys. She discovers he's been lying the whole time, she comes up with a plan to escape. How is using materials available to her at the time to make an easy explosive any different to all that?
There will be bloodbut you will be loved.

Exactly! Pretty much everything she does and learns to get the hell away from Howard basically ended up preparing her to deal with all the crazy s*** going down once she got out of the bunkerlike an emergency crash course in survival techniques. She sure as hell wasn't sitting around painting her fingernailsshe was scrapping, scheming, and hustling every chance she got to get the hell up out of that particular Dodge. So, no, that was nowhere near a "Mary Sue" moment at all. Everything she did during the entire film had been slowly but steadily working up to that particular moment of her throwing the bottle and taking that alien the hell out.
