There are a few parties who don't want his journal released, most notably the school itself. Considering there are likely times he wrote about sexual abuse at that school/based on suggestion so far, potentially by the staff, I can assume their motive. They officially claim they fear releasing it would inspire copycats.
Nothing to do with preserving some political narrative, though I do realize that's a convenient way to spin it in right-wing media to suit their own right-wing narrative/propaganda -

I think it should be released. I actually agree with you on that.
But your assumption of motive for it not yet being released is propaganda fed to you by right-wing media and has no basis in the facts of the actual court battle -
