Absolutely. The great age of Hollywood horror gave us
The Exorcist, Alien, The Shining
,
The Thing
, and
Carrie
: John Hurt, Sissy Spacek, Max von Sydow, Jack Nicholson, Kurt Russell, Shelley Duvall…. The shift comes, I think, with cheap slashers like
Halloween
and
Friday the 13th
. No-name blondes with huge tits being killed by a faceless monster. Movies like
The Hills Have Eyes
and
Wrong Turn
are decent, but don't feature memorable actors. Today's horror is mostly jump scares and very bad acting. There are exceptions: Daniel Kaluuya in
Get Out
was excellent, as was the film as a whole. But it stands out from mountains of dreck. Horror seems to be over, as a genre. -

Do horror movies need good actors?
yes.
but sorry this…
Horror seems to be over, as a genre.
…is bullshit
your examples, The Hills Have Eye & Wrong Turn, are 20 year old movies made in the 2000s when horror as a genre was at its all time low. horror now has never been better.
for the record, here are my fav horror movies just for this year alone:
if you've watched any of these you'll see how acting is absolutely phenomenal in these.
just a few outstanding ones from THIS year alone:
Naomi Scott in Smile 2
Mia Goth in MaXXXine
Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga in Joker 2
Cailee Spaeny & David Jonsson in Alien Romulus
Nell Tiger Free in The First Omen
Lupita Nyong'o in A Quiet Place: Day One
Demi Moore & Margaret Qualley in The Substance
Maika Monroe in Longlegs
Kelsey Asbille in Don't Move
Elizabeth Banks in Skincare
Hugh Grant in Heretic
Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate

God, you have awful taste! All those movies are utter garbage. Only Don't Move was halfway decent. You have the taste of your generation, which is basically no taste at all. This is what comes of not reading any books and spending all your time on the Internet.
