Well, the thing with whispering is that people don't necessarily consciously notice your contributions. That's why I am my own back-patter.

I saw Penny's innocent pleas for peace and felt obliged to stop her pain. Maybe something else was going on though.

You need to get off the internet and catch up. Movies are mythology for modern humanity.
How far do you think an ancient Greek would have got in their society without an understanding of Hesiod's Theogony, or the myth of Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Pandora, or who Persephone, Heracles, or Theseus were?
You could just go straight to the original mythology, of course, but since nobody else does, you'll end up speaking in a language they won't understand.

I might be wrong, and have nothing but a hunch to base this on, but I suspect left wing types aren't bought into the "truth" of mythology. They might know the stories, but they wouldn't recognize the wisdom in them. They don't seem to be able to accept the reality of human nature. They seem to think the root cause of every problem and issue is socially constructed, not us as a species.
The type of man that thinks the military is not needed could never understand the truth of the Iliad.
