Which Call of Cthulhu? There has been more than one adaptation of that story. I'm partial to this one though:

Lovecraft knew how to use suspense. This film didn't

I have not seen this film yet (but I will) I came across it through one of the Lovecraft fanzene sights (Lovecraft eZene). The person who runs the sight seems very taken wth it.

Seen it now.The feel is much more Arthur Machen secret horror than it a Lovecraftian cosmic horror!

Its a very good and very subtle movie. IMDB boards are full of whiny children that love to troll and complain. Theres a difference between respectfully reasoning why you didn't like a film and throwing a sissy fit of insults.

Thank you! I couldn't agree more! There is more to critiquing a film than just saying "it sucks". I realize not everyone has the best writing skills, myself included, but come on people, at least TRY to expand on why you think somethings sucks.

Dagon was good but didn't feel like a Lovecraft story.

There's an early 2000's Japanese movie "Uzumaki," about a town transformed by a mysterious force that is also quite Lovecraftian.

That's one I enjoyed. I only wish one of the crews who updated Sherlock Holmes ( Sherlock or Elementary) who turn there hands to Lovecraft.

This was definitely lovecraftian for sure. Excellent flick.

If you want to see a good recent horror film (with a similarly low-budget) which has Lovecraftian elements, check out The Borderlands from last year. Absentia isn't bad because of the themes it deals with, it's bad because it's appallingly amateurish and the (actually quite large) budget has nothing to do with that, it has to do with incompetent filmmaking.

Yup, $70k is a pretty big budget.

Lovecrafts works are complete trash. No one reads anymore especially in 2015. But Absentia is a legend to any extreme horror fan!

I didn't find this "extreme" and plenty of people still read Lovecraft & will keep doing so. So your wrong!

If anything, the last ten years have seen a big resurgence of Lovecraft in pop culture - but thanks for your contribution.
