If this is happening to a man instead of woman I don't think it would be this complicated.

If Adaline were a man, we wouldn't see the sexist schlock that's all over this board. "OMG SHE HAD SEX WITH THE DAD AND SON!!!!"
If she was a man like board would probably be all congratulatory or just not mention anything. -

There's the reply I was looking for.
Gender has nothing to do with it, OP. Most people get lonely and want a lasting connection at some point. It's not about sex or romance - it's about family. There are exceptions, people who prefer to remain alone for one reason or another, but most need close bonds with other people. Love, trust, belonging, companionship, security. Someone who knows you. Someone you can count on. A lot of people don't think that much about it in their twenties, but as they age, for most people it slowly becomes important.
Again, there are exceptions, but gender has nothing to do with it. -

Her only long-term relationship, outside of her daughter, of course, was with a blind woman, for obvious reasons.
Not being able to sustain long-term relationships would really suck.
I don't want the world. I just want your half. -

There was an old Twilight Zone episode like that about a man who is ageless and has lived for thousands lf years. He too would involve himself with young women, and eventually leave them to keep his secret intact.

If main of this movie character would have been a guy
He would have been babyfaced 40 year old guy that would have been ridiculed during WWII if he didn't sign up for military and if he did join the military all sorts of suffering would have followed. Assuming he survived the war, awkward veterans meetings would have followed in decades to come with funerals of guys who he served with.
Supporting characters
Mike, the 22 year old guy who threw grenade in room occupied by civilians in France 1944 and never got over it, offed himself in mid 50's.
