i agree with your post, but i just saw the imdb page for the u.s. version and it looks like they have cocked up and cast unknown actors just like they did with skins, and apparently there is 6 episodes already filmed and waiting for air in 2012.

i honestly think it can be a good show especially with Brad Copeland writing because he's the guy that wrote Arrested Development and My Name is Earl. So as far as writers go MTV hired a great one.

Well they made an American version of Skins which apparently didn't go down to well However, I don't know whether that was down to the actual content or the acting itself. Anyway, my main point is I firmly believe American humour is totally different to English humour.
I mean we have, The inbetweeners, Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps, shameless (call that a comedy if you will) and so on
While they have stuff like How I met your mother, The Big Bang theory etc
I think they should stick with the sitcoms (which they are good at!) and leave the nitty gritty comedies to us
However, I am very biased as I have only watched the English versions of these shows that are being remade in America, so I suppose I can't really form a valid opinion until I watch them I guess
Someone told me I should take caution when it comes to love, I am

yes it will be awful, American humor is not funny, they are unable to laugh at themselves or produce anything remotely as good as Britain, it will be a PC, mishmash of humor we as a country grew out of over 20 years ago. They should leave our comedies well, well alone

American humour is not funny? Might I suggest for you to watch shows such as Nurse Jackie, Arrested Development, Modern Family, Louie, 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia to name a few? Not to mention classics such as M.A.S.H. and I Love Lucy.
As for you calling their humour politically correct, they have cable channels such as HBO and Showtime so therefore, where there is no censorship. It is far from politically correct. I'm guessing you have never seen Weeds before?
They are very good at going black comedy. I don't know where this myth that Americans can't be funny came from. They can, and television in general in America is much better. Drama or comedy. To me, The Inbetweeners is a fun show, but it's not that funny. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't think writing on the show required much particular skill. Just four teenage boys being, well, teenagers. Even the writers themselves said that most of the situations in the show were based on stuff that happened to them.

to me it is old, it is dated is is archaic. I have seen most of these shows and they are not funny, not even remotely, and I don't think American TV is better in any way shape of form.

Are you trying to tell me that The Inbetweeners is better than those classic comedies that I posted? Really? How exactly are Arrested Development, 30 Rock and Weeds dated? Have you really watched them?
Mad Men and Breaking Bad pretty much trump anything being made over here. The Hour is the one I have time for.

They are nothing to fawlty towers, or steptoe and son, or men behaving badly, or peep show or the league of gentlemen etc etc etc.
We have had some fantastic TV on over here, the hour is fantastic, a few months ago there was the crimson petal and the white, women in love, the night watch, christopher and his kind, etc. I just do not find American TV particularly good and American comedy very funny. You have your opinion I have mine

I don't think many even working in British television would suggest that it's better than American. I often have conversations with people who work in the UK television industry and they all are frustrated at the poor quality TV they have to produce. American Drama and Comedy has been in a golden age for the last 15 years. Television is almost seamless from blockbuster films, The writing is better and the sheer quantity of compelling drama is staggering that there is no way you can get through it all. In Britain, the industry is obsessed with cheap television. Most of the main stations have flag ship shows (BBC Doctor Who, ITV Downton Abby) But think in the middle of those. It's all reality based. Location Location Location, DIY, Gameshows, Come Dine with Me, variety shows.I am not saying that none of these don't have merit. But it's all stuff that they don't have to pay actors or have a big production crew.
Of course we come out with true gems every once in a while, But America pumps multiple good shows almost ever quarterly season.
So the fact that you think American TV is better than British is a matter of opinion, But it would hardly even hold up with many in the industry itself.

Its a matter of opinion I think most American shows are overacted ott rubbish, the fact that the UK doesn't even have a 3rd of the budget America has, yet still manages to make great shows like sherlock, the hour etc etc and there are a lot more coming up. Big budget does not equal good quality.
Humor is subjective, the only American show at the mo I find remotely funny is raising hope, the rest are just not funny, and looking at the cinema's tonight I have never seen so many people going to see an American comedy film on this scale, the queue was out the door and is now booked for two days, why, because the TV show is so good and doesn't need a multi million pound budget instead it has a decent writer

I know taste is subjective, but if you truly do not think American comedies like Curb your Enthusiasm, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 30 Rock, or Arrested Development are funny, you must be biased against American t.v. in general. Or you just have terrible taste, which I'm assuming is not the case since you like Peep Show, the best show ever.
Contrary to what many Brits seem to believe, American humor can be very self-deprecating and witty. You just have to look beyond the networks to HBO, Showtime, and FX. There are loads of great shows, the past 15 years really have been a golden age for American television.
When it comes to comedies America and Britain are both great, but U.S. dramas blow their U.K. counterparts away. Boardwalk Empire, the Sopranos, the Wire, Dexter, True Blood, Weeds, Mad Men, Walking Dead, etc etc the list of great dramas doesn't end.

The only American comedy I have liked in recent years is raising hope, I just don't find the humor funny, and I prefer UK drama I just think a lot of US drama is totally overacted and badly scripted.

Luther, Sherlock and The Shadow Line were as good as any of those. And a couple that you mentioned like True Blood and Weeds aren't even good.
As for American comedy its nowhere near inventive as the UK, American usually generic comedies like 'two and a half men' and 'the big bang theory', they need to move away from that but they wont as its mostly studio writers and they tend to stick to the safe.

You've just made the point, Marisa. None of those 'comedies' you mention are funny. None of them. At least not to this Englishman.
The Americans should leave British comedy alone. Every single remake they do is a disaster.

I'm sorry but the Yanks version of Shameless blows our off the face of the planet. Follows more or less the same script but the characters at least have some personality and the metro area they film in actually feels like a slum. Also, their take on The Office is good; maybe not so much any more but the first few years were great. And I'm pretty sure it has had better international success than ours ever did.

                                          Modern Family is the only (slightly) amusing show you have mentioned. In general U.S. ''comedy'' sucks. That's just my opinion and I don't expect anyone to agree with me. If u think UK comedy sucks, I don't give a beep and I certainly won't be getting my panties in a twist about it. There is no myth!, Americans can be funny but usually they aren't that is why people think this way. You have done your cause no favor by mentioning those beep shows should have gone with;
                                          King of Queens - Funny
My Name is Earl - Funny
                                          Everybody Hates Chris - Funny
I agree that in general U.S TV is much better(excluding sit-coms) however a FAR bigger budget will always enable this.
