Why cast Christopher Plummer if you're just going to make him look like this ?

I mean, it's apples and oranges though.
In those examples, they're still using the actor's likeness and build with props/CGI over it.
A closer example would be if they cast John Goodman as the Joker, made a Heath Ledger prosthetic face mask for Goodman to wear, and then put white makeup over that, so he closely resembles Heath Ledger's Joker, instead of just casting Heath Ledger look-a-like.
I guess his point is, why cast Colin Ferrel to make him a bald, fat, and ugly regular person, when there are already bald, fat, and ugly actors who fit that mould anyway.
