A black character was among the Losers Club in the original novel, and a racially charged event in Derry's past is detailed as well.
The novel also opens with a homophobic hate crime which I don't believe has found it's way into any of the adaptations so far.

Ah, ok. I only watched that once, because retelling the entire story in chronological order is dumb and the '50s setting is essential. The miniseries is imperfect as well due to network television standards, although Tim Curry's performance is classic.
It seems like this is really just a series set in Derry, sort of like Hulu's Castle Rock, set in another town of King's creation.

The entire story rests on the assumption that Carrie didn't realize what was going on initially. That's not impossible in 1974, given her very sheltered upbringing. But it would be very unbelievable in 2025.
But, yes, Spacek's performance and De Palma's direction will not be topped.
