i think the problem with making another carrie is that sissy's performance is really what sells it, along with how raw everything looked back in 1970's horror.

The entire story rests on the assumption that Carrie didn't realize what was going on initially. That's not impossible in 1974, given her very sheltered upbringing. But it would be very unbelievable in 2025.
But, yes, Spacek's performance and De Palma's direction will not be topped.
