    No, China was not mentioned in the short story "Story of Your Life."
    I see your point, except China was made out to be the enemy of mankind in this film. I'm not so sure that will be a big selling point for the Chinese market.

          Definitely. The US audience is becoming less and less important. That Matt Damon movie where people only speak in easy-to-translate, trailer-friendly one liners is perfect evidence.

            I'd never considered that. English being dumbed down so it can be easily understood by intermediate-level English speakers in China.
            If that's the case, that's a very sad development.

                    Not in the short story. IMO China was just added to be an easy way to grow a military conflict for screen dramatic purposes.

                      The original story doesn't really deal much with the international issues in the movie, let alone China.
