In an early chapter set in 1952, Edward VIII complains about his meager allowance of 10,000 pounds. That's equivalent to 284,000 pounds ($352,000 U.S. dollars) today. Poor old Edward and Wallis were just scraping by.

Plus Edward had other funds as well. In fact, he had bamboozled his brother into agreeing to give him an additional income, claiming he was broke. But then GVI learned from someone in the cabinet that Edward had amassed a fortune of over a million pounds, so GVI halted the funds he'd promised him.

One documentary I saw with people interviewed who knew them, said Wallace would wear what appeared to be costume jewellery, but they'd be genuine massive rubies, emaralds and diamonds!
Imagine how much they'd cost. They'd be not much smaller than the crown jewels themselves. So yeah he must have done ok for himself out of the whole thing, though he claimed poverty.

His conduct was appalling. He took away a huge sum of money from the Duchy of Lancaster (his as long as he was Prince of Wales, and not thereafter). Greatly underestimated his wealth to his brother and Bertie had to buy him out of Sandringham and Balmoral (the private properties of the family and not the Crown's). Then while Governor of the Bahamas he was conducting illegal currency trades out of which he made huge sums. These were highly illegal in war time. FBI had a big file on him.

Why is making his brother buy homes that belonged to him personally or taking money from a duchy that was his until the very moment he abdicated "appalling"? They were his. Now his brother kicking him out of the country and his sister in law acting like his wife was a monster, those things are "appalling".

Wrong, those properties were personally owned by the monarch, they were not part of the crown estate and upon the death of his father passed directly to him, in his personal capacity. Please provide evidence she was a NAZI.
