Are we supposed to like Logan?

Logan is the boyfriend from Rory's grandparents world. He was kind of Tristan 2.0 and definitely has some Christopher about him. It makes sense that Rory would meet guys like Logan at Yale and through her grandparents, and it was probably inevitable that she would date at least one of them.
I've always been of two minds about Logan. I don't think he's all that good for Rory and I probably wouldn't want to know him personally, but I find him enjoyable to watch. Matt Czuchry does a good job with him and makes Logan charming and charismatic, smart and quick witted enough to keep up the banter. He infused Rory's storyline with a new energy when he showed up in season 5 so I see why they kept him around.
I would have preferred if their arrangement in the revival happened while both of them were actually single/ only dating others casually like they tried in season 5. Then there wouldn't be the whole ick of adultery attached to it. -

I did not like Logan the first time around and thought he was written to be douch-y, but then when I saw the chatter surrounding this revival I was shocked that he is many people's favorite Rory boyfriend!
He is attractive and I think genuinely cared about Rory back in college, but obvious that in 2015 he is not in love with her. Nobody in love would keep them as a sidepiece like that, or treat their fiance like that. He is so spoiled I just don't see the appeal. -

I disagree with this assessment of Logan. Its clear he doesnt love his fiance, but I do think he loves Rory. His "fiance" seemed like a busniess arrangement set up by his father at least that was the vibe I got with the way both Logan and his father talked about it.
Also remember Rory doesnt want to date him. In fact she is the one who is pissed/ annoyed that Logan takes her to brunch at a restaurant that his father owns and runs into him. She wants to be hidden. why? because she doesnt want to date him.
Logan is my second fav boyfriend of Rorys, AND the rivival almost seems like they ignored season 7 logan. Logan changed in season 7 imo. Dean, who is her worst boyfriend got the superstar cameo first love when he was the first one that made him a mistress.
Jess has always been the one. and Im not sure why they didnt just end it with the two of them getting together unless they're begging for more episodes/ a spin off. contrary to popular belief, Milo isnt that busy on This is us since
His character is dead and hes only in flashbacks -

Add that one to the long list of reasons I've always disliked Logan. I don't know why him calling her Ace always annoyed me, but maybe that's it - he was trying to seem charming. He just came off as slimy to me.

Ace does not seem like a nickname you'd call your girlfriend/mistress to be endearing. It honestly sounds more like a little kids nickname rather than one for an adult (unless it was like a military nickname or essentially the name a person went by with everyone). I didn't see the later seasons of GG but this nickname bugged me in the revival. There is just nothing romantic to it so it sounds weird to me. I also agree it sounds smarmy at times.

Yes and no.
Matt did a wonderful job with making Logan likable enough. He's the guy you wanna hang out with and the guy you wanna punch.
I like Logan, he's not an easy character, but he's definitely not forgettable. Second best male, after Richard. He was also full of flaws, but he the acting made him more likeable.
As for other comments, i think Jess gets a pass for being good looking cos is not even relevant to the show yet people want to see him with Rory. They dated for few months. In high school -

Totally agree with you! I think Amy and Dan in general ignored the strong character evolutions Rory and Logan had as a couple in season 7 because they didn't write that
Matt is a great actor and plays Logan well. I think that if Rory was honest about her feelings for him in Fall he would of committed again, I mean he wanted to marry her. His engagement was probably influenced by his family. But if he knew how Rory felt he would of ended things. I personally don't think Logan ever had a problem standing up to his family, and was always the first to put them down. He left his dad in season 7 to go on his own career pathbut see again Amy and Dan paid no attention to season 7.
Agreed the Team Jess peeps give him a pass for being smart and good looking, not far off from Logan. -

I think thats hardly fair. Its not their fault rory wants to be the other woman. Like someone above said. Logan would have married her in a heartbeat if she had indicated she wanted to be with him. He's always treated her better than she treated him.

I believe I was the one who said that he would have married her if she indicated that she wanted to, but because she didnt he proceeded to be ok with making her the other woman.
At the end of the day, jess, beep that he was grew up. He understood exactly what Rory needed. He gave her the motivation to go back and finish school. When shes down and out he gives her the idea to write the book thats flowing out of her. Jess gets rory and understands her. Logan has never understood rory. Is Logan a nice guy. Is he nice to her? sure. But he doesnt understand her. Instead of pushing and saying the right things to get her to go back to school he just lets her party. "I'll take care of you". Instead of telling Rory that he loves her and wants to marry her he agrees to this relationship of dont ask dont tell. If Rory were to stay with Logan she would wake up one day hating herself because she let her entirely life go by and let Logan take care of her. Thats exactly what she does when she breaks up with him the final time. I dont think Logan is a bad guy hes just absolutely not right for Rory.
Jess on the other hand.. Always seems to turn up right when she needs him to get her back on track. -

If Logan had tried pushing her to go back to school she would have treated him like Lorelei. It only worked for Jess because she hadn't seen him in awhile and he didn't understand what happened so it was more powerful for him showing up and seeing all of the changes in her life. She wouldn't listen to anyone close to her including Logan. Logan has always let Rory live her own life and make her own decisions because he felt like he never got to do that because of his dad.

Rory needs to learn to be more independent and in control of her life not rely on Jess to tell her what she's doing wrong and to save her. Logan was more of an equal partner to her where as Jess and her had a dynamic where someone was always taking care of the other.

I think it is the other way around. Logan always try to take care of Rory (even in the revival, he handed over her a key even she did not mention needing a place), that is probably why she stays at arm's length from him.

Not really. Logan always tried to make her feel better when she was upset but he never tried to hold her hand and guide her where she needed to be. He let her be who she was going to be and loved her for who she was.
