Baloney. Our "democracy" (American "democracy" in particular) was undermined a long time ago by corporations, foreign lobbyists (AIPAC, etc) and billionaire kingmakers like Sheldon Adelson. The 1% destroyed our democracy. In actuality, we have a 'democracy in name only' where two parties, both beholden to the moneyed class, have monopolized the political system for the benefit of the 1%. It's a nice little game of charades we play every four years but that's hardly a democracy. Outsiders, populists (not phonies like Trump) and peacemakers are allowed to run in our elections but they never win because the system is rigged in favor of the 1% and its interests.
If Assange and/or the Russians want to expose the wrongdoings of such a system, more power to 'em. -

Yes, it is. Hence, I put democracy in quotation marks.
Our founding fathers believed in free speech … and a free press. Jefferson in particular would've defended someone like Julian Assange.
