Henry Mancini's great theme graced Blake Edwards' PETER GUNN for all three seasons of its run in the late '50s/early '60s. The show, which was the first show to feature a detective protagonist created specifically for television, is seldom seen these days, but its theme has been recorded by everyone and used by everyone for just about everything:

Mike Post has written a
lot
of tv themes over the years (many of them will probably turn up here if this thread catches on). One of his most iconic has to be his theme from HILL STREET BLUES:
