    Kirk’s Dead Mommy — 6 years ago(January 20, 2020 07:30 PM)

Let’s look at all the reasons below, shall we…

    1. Blu Ray cases are too small and won’t stand up good on shelves. They look so retarded, I much prefer the black cases of dvds which make them look look sharper and the text is easier to read. The blue cases look so stupid and are poorly designed, plus the artwork is so tiny, just blehhh looking.
    2. Not many people own Blu Ray players so if you want to bring your movie over to a friends house, you’re **** out of luck. DVD’s are universal, everyone has a player somewhere in their house. This is a no brainer.
    3. The prices for Blu Ray movies are absurd. What costs $30 on Blu Ray you can get for $5 on DVD.
    4. DVD’s have more discs which is actually a good thing. Let’s say you’re friend wants to borrow the special features disc of Terminator 2 but you want to watch that movie tonight….no problem because the movie is on a separate disc. On Blu Ray one of you is gonna be **** out of luck because they cram everything on one disc.
    5. Although Blu Ray offers a slightly clearer image on screen, most of these new 4K scans or new transfers in general change the color timing or tinker too much with color levels in order to make the image pop. Here’s the problem, the image looks fake and the environment looks off.
    6. Do you got a favorite movie but can’t find it on Blu Ray? No problem, DVD will definitely have it available because it’s not some niche fart sniffer format. Almost every movie ever made is available on the DVD format.
    7. Blu Ray discs are louder and tend to clang around in the players making it distracting while watching movies, DVD is always quiet and well behaved.
    8. Many Blu Ray releases don’t include the theatrical versions of movies and force you to watch the inferior Director Cuts, movies like “Dumb and Dumber” and “Watchmen” come to mind.
    9. I just prefer the look of 480 pixels over 1080, when you make the image too clear what happens is you start noticing things in the backgrounds of movies that distract you from what’s happening up front.
    10. DVD’s rule the Porn Market…nuff said
Finally, don’t even mention the “word” streaming because that’s a joke of a format.

Blu ray players and discs have been out since 2006, how in the hell do people still not have blu ray players?
      I know it's a true statement, but damn…

I think many people don’t see much difference in picture quality and don’t want to shell out the extra money.

I am one of those ppl.
Do I really feel left out that I did not see that they did not trim Tom Cruise's nose hair in the hanging from the ceiling scene in MI and that I did not shell out three digit dollars for it?
          Never. I say never!

Yeah there’s hardly much difference in picture quality, it’s such a cash grab.

The difference in quality is night and day.

I get preferring one look over the other, but I still most definitely see a difference.
Hell, I prefer watching old 80s slashers on a CRT TV and a VHS.

I think Bluray discs are more durable.

There's often better extra material on DVD releases. Sometimes there aren't any extras on blu ray editions at all so for my all-time favourites, I have them on both blu ray and DVD.
