I hate when jobs talk about "culture"

It's such BS. I interviewed for a job today. I had to drive almost an hour to get there. After that drive, I was already thinking, "If this job isn't remote or almost fully remote I'm out." They actually seemed REALLY interested in me. I know 3 of the people currently working there and the owner knew one of my past bosses who had nothing but good things to say about me. They just would NOT budge on the wfh thing. They said they want to build a "winning culture" and it was really important for everyone to be in the office together to collaborate. I had to hold back my laughter. I'm not sacrificing my whole day for your dumb culture. I assured them I could do just as good if not better from home. They asked if I could meet them in the middle and do 3 days in office and 2 from home. I said I would do max 1 day a week in office. They said that wouldn't be in the spirit of their company or some BS. I just said the job would not fit my lifestyle and I walked.
On the walk to the elevator one of the guys I know kept doing that deep sigh thing. He said he was disappointed we couldn't meet in the middle and he was excited about bringing me aboard. He apologized and he hoped they didn't waste too much of my time. I laughed. I honestly don't give a ****. I rejected you. Not the other way around.

This feels like something that should have been established in the job spec.
I love rejecting jobs. Some of those middle-management types can't handle it. Like you are ****ing with their worldview too much.

I had the same issue with my current job. Had to commute for a little over sixth months. Finally conviced them to set us up to be able to work remote. Then COVID hit. Been remote ever since, and now our whole team is remote.

I'm in a good position though where I can reject offers and not grovel. I know a lot of people just need to make rent and can't be picky.
