That's cool. Which reminds me, I once met a guy who was into pirate radio. He showed me his pirate radio set up and even demonstrated by talking to a couple of other pirates on it from many miles away in other states. They said "Arrrh, maties!" repeatedly.

Yeah, but this will still be around if the 'net or cells go down and it's vocal.
One of the cool things was hearing them talk in code.
It's a hobby left over from before the 'net.

My dad had a ham radio. Decades ago, it was almost exclusively a bunch of old guy’s from the WW2 generation. There was the occasional young person. But it was rare.
We also had a CB, back when CB was very popular. Tons of young people used the CB radios. But the standards for CB were very low, and you could get away with a lot (Kinda like filmboards). But ham radio had far stricter regulations, and if you screwed around on the ham bands, it would get the FCC on your tail, and the fines were harsh.

LOL! back in the early 90s i was friends with a buncha fellas that were in a band and they were absolute CB fanataics! i gotta say that it was peretty hilarious the pranks and hijinks that could be accomplished with the technology
i currently own a house in a suburban neighborhood and in the neighborhood is what has to be a ham radio setup…huge antenna…quite a monstrosity! i always look for the resident when im there mowing my tenants place so i can inquire…but i never see a soul
