we are almost out of fossil fuels and there will be no more supplies one day anymore obviously which makes your question obsolete. the smoke that is produced from burning wood is highly carcinogenic, so not a great substitute once fossil fuels won't be no more. until that day comes tho, the Earth will be in full global warming mode anyway, so heating is gonna become redundant. yada yada yada

well before we will run out of forests, we mostly likely will run out of life, bc already the loss of 50% (or was it even 30%) of our current forest stand worldwide is going to cause a complete and irredeemable climate collapse. the air will heat up tremendously, with less trees compensating and balancing out temperatures, we will run out of breathable air, less rain will cause droughts worldwide obviously which will have crop failures and harvest losses as consequences, also bc the soil is already going to be lost with no trees around anymore, which will inevitably cause hunger catastrophes, not only in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America, but also here in the Global North. and so on and on and on… so before we run out of forests entirely, humanity will already have ceased to exist, and humans will be extinct long before the last tree on Earth dies.
