He was the best teenager in the world IMO. Definitely better than Ronaldo and more explosive than Messi.
But I always remember the video of him in the directors box trying to secretly drink a pint unaware he was being filmed.
I think when you are at your place of work and you are secretly trying to consume alcohol, well, this might be something you need to keep a check on.
I feel a bit for him though, I think he is quite a shy boy, he definitely isn't a natural extrovert, and since he was 16 he has had the country poking fun at his looks, his weight, his intelligence, his behaviour, even with all the adulation in the world I think that would hurt anyone in his shoes. No wonder he turns to alcohol. And I think the alcohol has taken its toll on his body, he is still a great player but he hasn't had that sharpness, speed, lightening reactions and reflexes for a lot longer than people will admit, since probably his early 20s. But I'll repeat, he is still a very good player even without all that. -

He is in a horrible place at the moment, made worse when he looks at someone like Jermain Defoe, who is older but still very hungry and arguably is much more deserving of a place in the England squad that Rooney. Other "golden oldies" making Rooney look knackered are Ibra and Peter Crouch.
