Was the Cowboys season a failure?

13-3. #1 seed in the NFC playoffs and will not heave to leave the state of Texas. And through all that they still won as many playoff games as the Browns, 49ers, Jaguars, etc.
So was the season a failure or is it a building block for future seasons to Come? IMO, it's hard to Cal it a success after all the hype and trash talking done by them and some of their fans. -

If I'm a Cowboys fan I'm happy to look to the future. They have two rookies that look to be foundation pieces of some teams that could do great things. I highly doubt many Cowboys fans looked at this team back in August and saw one that would go 13-3 and get the #1 overall seed in the NFC. Their window is just opening, not closing. So I'd say no, the season was not a failure.

I would say it's a success because no one thought they would go 13 - 3 with a rookie quarterback this year.

I'm not a Cowboys fan so it's easy to be objective here. Taken as a whole I'd say it wasn't a failure, but it's hard to win more than 12 games and then lose your first playoff game and not be extremely disappointed.
I didn't realize the Cowboys were talking trash. I don't pay attention to what the fans do, fans are all the same.
The future is in the hands of a man who has none.

Well, every team "hypes" itself after a 13-3 regular season, so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. What are they supposed to say? Hey, we just went 13-3, let's go give it the ole college try now that the playoffs are here?
Stupid fans talking $hit has zero bearing as to whether a team's season is considered a success or a failure.
Only 1 team can win in the end and the Cowboys got beat. -

Yeah they are set up nicely, offense is stacked, they got a trading chip in Romo and Prescott and Elliott are on rookie contracts for 3 more years , they have the luxury of drafting all defense next year , they hit them right and they will have a nice 3-6 year window where they will be among the elite teams

That game reinforced what I've been thinking from about mid-season on: this is a offense that can make a post-season run (and they proved that with Dak)but the defense is nowhere near that level. For about 3 offseasons in a row, I've hoped for a defensive focus (especially in the draft since we have no cap space). But it hasn't happened.
That being said, we still had a chance to win it yesterday..or at least take it to OT. If you look at that last pass play, the boys rushed 3 and dropped 8 into coverage. Now why exactly would you do that when you had been getting pressure on Aaron all day with the blitz (in fact, IIRC, he got sacked the play before)? Sit back and play prevent because it was 3rd and 20? As Madden use to say: the prevent defense prevents victory.
Oh well..next year.

If they let Romo play in week 17, the whole game, they'd be 14-2.
My Eagle blood says it was a complete failure, but in all reality I'll say it was not a failure because they weren't expected to be this great throughout the season
The playoffs were a complete failure after witnessing what they did during the reg. season.

It reminded me a bit of the 1992 Steelers. It was the first year under Cowher and they hadn't made the playoffs in six of their previous seven seasons. And then that year they went 11-5 and somehow was the number one seed in the playoffs.
And then in their first game they have the two time Super Bowl participant Bills come in and Buffalo shellacked them 24-3.
After that year, I was excited for the team going forward. I would think Dallas fans would feel the same way - - it was a great season that was unexpected and things should only get better. -

Dumb question.
A 13-3 season is never a failure, no matter what happens in the playoffs. Especially in Dallas, where they have a very young team and had their best year in ages. They will be a great team again next year. -

It's a let down for sure. If you're a Cowboys fan yesterday was a brutal loss because of how high expectations were, and how elusive playoff success has been for them. But Dallas fans should be pleased about their team. They're built to be successful for years to come. They may be saying goodbye to most of their familiar faces, I don't expect to see Romo or maybe even Witten around much longer, and Bryant is expendable now, and they could change coaches even, but I think they have a lot of faith in the younger players and expect to keep much of this offense together for a long time.
They're profoundly disappointed, I'm sure, but there's a big difference between that and a failure, I think. This wasn't they're last shot. -

Were you telling everyone that this season would be the Cowboys return to glory with a World Championship?
FAILURE
Were you looking forward to at least a Super Bowl appearance?
FAILURE
Were you hoping for a reasonably good playoff run that might indicate some hope for the future?
FAILURE
Have you resigned yourself to the liklihood that the Cowboys will never again have any post season success as long as Jerry Jones is general manager, and you were just happy that they didn't crap themselves like last season?
