A rainforest expert I met in Australia said that if you are lost in a rain forest you should walk until you find running water and then follow it downstream. I’d rather do that instead of following a bunch of wild animals.

When water flows downstream it often flows in the direction of rivers or lakes where there is more chance of encountering human habitats. You are also usually heading in the direction of the sea and once you hit that you can follow the shoreline until you encounter human habitation. Of course there’s little chance of me being in that situation but if I were I’d follow the advice of someone who seemed to know what he was talking about.
