It depends entirely on what I'm playing. Most of the time I'm a keyboard and mouse kind of person, especially for shooters and or third person action games, but there are certain types of games that I just can't train my brain to use the keyboard with. Most notably platformers. For example right now I'm playing a game called 20XX that I bought on steam. The game is basically Megaman, jump, shoot, repeat, that kind of thing, and I've been using my controller for that because there's just no way I could maneuver such a jump heavy action platformer with a keyboard and mouse.
It's things like that, though, that ultimately highlight the greatest strength of PC gaming. customization. You can play a game pretty much however you want. Whatever you're comfortable with you can use without issue.
Oh and if you can't train your brain to use an xbox controller because of it's incredibly clunky design, and I can fully understand why you'd have a problem with it after years of using the far superior playstation controller, you should just pick up a PS4 controller or decent third party alternative. It's much easier to get those to work on your PC than a PS3 controller, and they're definitely preferable to the xbox controller.

Console gaming is vastly superior to PC gaming.

After years of trying to get my ps3 controller to work on PC i finally gave in and bought an Xbox one (S) controller.
Years of trying? Just plug in the USB mini Cable to your PC and download motioninjoy. I used to play games with the ps3 controller on PC.
        What's your experience??
I use ps4 controller for retro games (2d platformers, brawlers, fighting games etc), because the dpad is much better then the Xbox ones. And I use Xbox one controller for almost everything else (racing games, 3d platformers, 3rd person view games, single player fps games). Only online competetive games I use my mouse and keyboard, since I much prefer being able to play games on the couch instead of sitting in front of a desk.

Yeah, I used to use a 360 controller, but upgraded to the Xbox One S controller. Only use it for platformers, Dark Souls, and racing games, though. Everything else plays better with a keyboard and mouse. The Dualshock is absolute beep for everything, and it requires dodgy as beep third party software to use, so I can understand why you would choose to upgrade to a proper controller. Steam now has native support for the Xbox 360 and One controller, so it doesn't matter if the game has controller support any more.
Dark Souls is a beep port, but install the fan patch and you'll have the objectively best version of the game. You can even buff the frame rate up to 60.

Doesn't Steam now support the DS4 controller as well, or did I misread something?

That's what I thought I just wasn't sure. I so rarely use a controller, preferring keyboard and mouse even from the comfort of my couch in spite of so many people apparently thinking such a thing is impossible haha, so I didn't know if my memory on that was accurate or not.

Console gamepads are massively superior to the awful and irrelevant keyboard plus mouse combo for PC gaming.
The Dual Shock controllers are massively superior to the horrendous Xbox consoles gamepads.
                  It's not even a contest.

I've never used a controller on a PC game until I started using the PS4 controller for games like Skyrim's Special Edition or when I'm driving in GTA as I hate using the keyboard for driving and since GTA V is one of those cool PC games that lets you switch between Controller and Keyboard just by pressing a button/key on either one unlike say.Fallout 4 where the second you plug in your controller you're forced to use that until you unplug it.

Yeah I either use my Xbox One or PS4 controller, mostly for games that don't need precise aiming. RPGs, sports, racing, platformers, walking simulators, puzzles are way more comfortable with a controller. Everything that includes shooting though, I play with M+K

I have a wired 360 controller but the dead zone on the left analog is wonky for some games. Now that Steam has native DS4 support I'll probably be sticking to that.

                                    I've used a wireless 360 controller for controller-specific games (e.g. Dark Souls).
But I never shy away from using the keyboard and mouse for the games that tap into those device's superior gaming capacity. And I'm not fat or decrepit enough to find sitting in a desk chair uncomfortable.

I got my ds3 wiorking though the SCP toolkit and that xbox emulator, it's fairly decent, I couldn't imagine playing the witcher 3 with keyboard and mouse, the only problems I've faced is with QTE games like a telltales entry, I have to remind myself that X is [square.]

There's something called the Motioninjoy DS3 Tool for using your PS troller on PC, that worked for me for quite a while. I prefer not using it, however.
I have a Rockcandy wired 360 controller now, it works really well so far.
I never really understood why people have such hard feelings about their controller preference, they don't feel that much different to me, the PS vs Xbox - and I'm a pretty big Xbox troller n00b.
Then we'll see how he does up there, without all the assistance.
