Probably it's a little unnecessary for me to define, but 100% is when you collect every item. For example, Super Mario 64, 100% would be getting all 120 stars (and maybe all caps since people can 120ed it without the metal cap). However, beating would just mean getting and beating the third Bowser boss.
Now, for me, it kind of depends on how long it is, but mostly 100%. Stuff like Zelda is too tedious for me too 100% it.

Only when I play on my ps4 I get the urge to earn trophies and go for more completion. That said, 100% can be a chore and I REALLY have to like the game, or it can short to complete. I've 100%ed Batman: Arkham Knight (awesome game, never got tired) and The Order 1886 (took me 9 hours to get the platinum trophy lol, still a good game for $0)

I only platinum games I really like. I went out of my way to 100% Yakuza 4 and Fallout 3, enjoyed every minute of it.
Games like Tell Tale's the Walking Dead sorta kinda just give it to you it doesn't really count.

Nice. Using an MJ song as your reaction. Smooth.
Not being sarcastic, I really think it's clever.

Always 100%, if you only beat the story then your only playing half the game. I've also 100% every GTA ever made without the use of any strategy guide or internet help. I found each and every collectible on my own for all of them.

I got 100% completion for Red Dead Redemption for the single player portion. Still proud of that one.
I also got all of the gaps in Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

Used to concern myself with that all the time when I was younger, but now only when doing so nets you a significant enough end reward, or if it's a I really care about, and want to say I've done it all in it.
