Yes, the people decided they wanted it, and no, that wasn't your point. You were expressing agreement with the idea that banning guns leads to tyrannical governments, but if you are now agreeing that it's the people in these countries who are deciding what is acceptable, then that is the opposite of tyranny. That's democracy.

China also has "different standards" for speech. That doesn't mean that it isn't tyrannical. If your government can ban books and throw people in prisons for expressing the wrong opinions, then you do not have freedom of speech. And no, these things were never voted on.
