It works really well, and it's good for your neuromuscular system. I'd have my clients do it who (a) have joint replacements, (b) have any sort of tendon problems,
are training for marathons and want to strengthen their knees, ankles and hips for downhill portions of the runs in particular.
I've been incorporating reverse-walking myself, and having my clients do it, for decades, so it's not some weird TikTok trend. It helps with proprioception as well. As I mentioned to you before, it may look peculiar, but give it a go.

It's unlikely walking backwards accomplishes anything of importance. But you have to remember we live in the TikTok age, where any life hack placebo that isn't outright too stupid to be believed may be the thing that gets you likes and follows.

That's why he clearly states to do it a manner that is safe.
I realize many people may find this silly, but people who are really into fitness will understand the dynamics of how beneficial this is to fitness, strength, flexibility, proprioception, stability.
It's not for everyone, but this is beneficial for people who are serious about fitness, or people who are dealing with situations like joint replacements or if they have back problems.
I do it on a treadmill.

So what? How the hell do you do that
safely??
I would counter that it's
dangerous,
because it would cause a lot of falls, one of the chief causes of death for senior citizens. So it's a
dumb idea.

Personally, I do it, and have clients do it, exclusively on a treadmill, where there are handrails and the speed can be maintained. The idea is simply to do it in reverse and trick your nervous system. I know people who
run
outside in reverse. I think they're crazy, but, whatever. I've had elderly clients with joint replacements do this. It's all about how it's done. Safety first and foremost, always. Retrowalking is an incredibly powerful and healthy way to move to improve your body!
There are clubs, groups of people who walk backwards. Probably best to be done in a park in an area you're familiar with if you're going to do outside. Doing it on the treadmill is the safest alternative. It also depends how much you want to invest in your orthopedic and neurological health system.
Here's a little 2-minute video about its benefits.

I'll never understand the nutcases who try to jump onto a moving treadmill. What are they thinking? They be cray!
