The idea that intellectual property will be more valuable than physical property has been spinning for over 30 years now. It started with music and video, found its way to texts and chemical composition and is now trying to take up shapes and tastes. Before it was to make sure the only the originator could lay claim to benefiting from creating something, but since the mid-1990's the idea of an intellectual estate has been brewing with archivists being the new foot soldiers of cataloguing everything and writing policies to make sure that ownership is protected in laws which prohibit the free distribution of information for the well-being of society.
3D printers can be made to make guns and knives. Deep Fakes can be made to produce disgusting pornography. Recipes can make mind altering and dangerous drugs. Manifestos can radicalise impressionable minds.
Won't someone think of the children?
How and where this goes is anyone's guess but the idea is that you'll have everything you need without owning anything - there's no need to.
Of course that won't extend to those who actually do the owning They'll definitely want you to keep your grubby little paws away from their stuff. But they'll want you to see that they have it
And that is why the whole thing is disingenuous and without a point. The bread and circuses should tide us over until the flames retake us and this merry little adventure will continue on just fine without ever remembering us
