RIP Sony — 3 years ago(August 11, 2022 11:26 AM)
The new Xbox is outselling the PS5 for the last half year around the world.
In the first quarter of 2022, specifically the month of March, Xbox Series X/S generated the highest revenue in console sales in the United States of America alone.
With details shared during a corporate meeting and later tweeted by Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Communication Frank X. Shaw, the Xbox Series has led market share of current-gen consoles for two quarters in a row in the US, Canada, UK, and Western Europe.
It's even outselling the PS5 in Japan:
Last month, for the very first time, Xbox Series S outsold PS5 in one of the most prominent and influential gaming countries – Japan. With its unprecedented success, it was inevitable that Xbox Series X would follow. On June 13, in an announcement from Microsoft, Xbox Series X had already sold 3,272 units compared to PS5’s 3,035 units.
Sony currently has the lead over Microsoft this generation, but the lead is dwindling fast:
In totality, Sony’s PS5 has now sold more than 20 million units worldwide. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S is reaching more than 14 million in sales, worldwide.
And people didn't just stop buying Sony consoles, they stopped buying their games too, with close to 20 million less games sold on Sony consoles compared to this same period last year:
Elsewhere, sales of PS5, PS4 software reached 47.1 million, which is a significant drop compared to the 63.6 million units sold in the same quarter for fiscal year 2021. 6.4 million of those copies were first-party games from Sony — a drop of 4.1 million compared to the same three months last time out.
It is only a matter of time before Xbox surpasses the PS5. That's what happens when you have no good games. RIP Sony. -

May is an outlier. For the year they are about even. For the past 6 months Microsoft is winning. Xbox sales are growing, PS5 sales are declining. The Xbox is gaining ground and will surpass the PS5 soon. Very soon. It's only a matter of time.
