Zeus is an uptight racist curmudgeon who reluctantly goes along with McClane, but they develop into friends by the end.
Barnes not only has McClane’s back when everyone else is dumping on him, he also
solves how to contact the planes
, potentially saving thousands of lives, plus he
works out where the bad guys are hiding out
. Yes, he’s not played by a great actor (although he is very likeable), yes, he doesn’t have as much dialogue as the competition, but for sheer usefulness… Barnes wins hands down.
