Even though Joel McCrea says he preferred Westerns, 4 of his top 5 above are not Westerns.
With McCrea being born in 1905, a lot of his Westerns came after he was over the age of 40. Perhaps, the studio was putting him out to pasture somewhat.
One of my favorite McCrea movies is
Primrose Path
(1940) with Ginger Rogers. I would put it in my top 5 Joel McCrea movies.
