Curtis was a revelation to behold as Sidney Falco. Agree with you that Curtis could really deliver the dramatic goods if given the opportunity to do so.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything. -

Until I saw this movie and Days of Wine and Roses, Public Relations was an occupation I never thought about. Talk about having to jump through hoops! It was more or less pimping.

Remember Barbara Nichols in this? She usually played the ditz in comedies. I felt so bad for her character in this. There she is, waiting for Sidney, and he walks in with Mr. Sleeze. (Larry Tate)

That part always stays with me when I think of this movie. That, and the line, "The cat's in the bag. The bag's in the river."
The whole thing was so well written and so well directed. I'm suddenly in the mood to watch it again!

It was great, wasn't it? The sort of dialogue and snappy comebacks we wish we could come up with in our daily lives.
Like most people, I always think of the things I could have said after the fact!
We all need writers!

On the subject of Clifford Odets, I highly recommend checking out the mid-1940's film noir thriller gem Deadline at Dawn that was also written by Odets. That film boasts a lot of great snappy dialogue and a wondrous wealth of vividly drawn characters.

Thanks! I've never seen this one.
While it doesn't seem to be free on any of the other streaming channels that I get, I see that it's available here on Filmboards . I like noir. This looks like something I enjoy.
I can't believe I started this thread six years ago!

Hi!

You still around after a year?
Having reread this thread again, I have to wonder what your cut off date is for movie viewing.
What movies do you consider too old to watch?
For that matter, is this thread too old for you to reply?
Nah… it can't be, considering the fact that I started this one six years ago.
