    The entire movie is priceless, Miss Margo. Like great wine, it's aged beautifully. The movie sparkles; and it's blessedly free from politics, (but for the line about the Republicans not having been elected yet), which is about as far as it goes. I doubt any home purchase has been so light and lively as the one in this movie, and yet it feels just right for the entirety of its running time; and the final scene, about the product Grant has fashioned a brilliantly prosaic sales pitch, sells the film. I haven't seen
    Mr. Blandings
    in a dog's age, and I'd watch it in a heartbeat.

        Thanks so much, Miss Margo. I'll be watching
        Mr. Blandings
        fairly soon.
        Life is up and down for. It's not so much cruel to me as heartbreaking; and I mean that regarding others less fortunate than I am; people on-line and on the streets; friends and neighbors. Not just Covid.
        Yes, I'm pretty safe, albeit more isolated than I'd care to be. Booster shot was a piece of cake. No pain. Gout makes going places difficult; sometimes the pain is more worry, and in the head; and then alive and kicking, in my feet and thighs.
        All things together, life is bearable, occasionally a chore; often many chores. Yet there are many good things along the way, and much beauty as well.

            Thanks so much, Miss Margo. I remember that commercial. A nice use of a classic film to sell a product. Now if only there had been a kitchen product called Wham! Or did someone invent one already? After all, even before
            Blandings
            there was the army staple (and much later, Internet warning word), spam. Anything is possible.

              Wham?

                  I just put it in my queue at
                  Netflix
                  and moved it to the top. When it arrives and I've watched it…if I want to I can make a copy of it on my hard-drive and put it on a flash-drive. Then watch it on my BIG SCREEN tv!

                      Hey,
                      @Lilith
                      , I found it again and watched it again, too! It's one of the films I simply cannot NOT watch, because of the joy it brings. I felt the same way this time. I probably always will. Glad you got a copy to own.

                        I'll need to give this another watch. It brings me so much joy while being simple, relying purely on the talent of the wonderful actors alone.

                            I know I've said it before, but only Cary Grant can make the simple act of shaving for 5 minutes completely watchable and enjoyable. He's got this sly quirk about him that I find rather charming.

                                    I have missed your presence on the board. It's always such a pleasure to engage in conversation with classic movie buffs. Sometimes, it's funny how even a single scene within a movie can be the catalyst for an entire dialogue of friendly banter filled with reminiscing as we relish the evolving chats. It's wonderful to see you here! I do so hope that you're able to stick around for a while. 😃

                                          Hey,
                                          @Lilith
                                          . I hope I'm not too late with this. I just wanted to share some info I remembered about this film, which I'm actually copying from Wikipedia. I think you'll enjoy it.
                                          "The house built for the 1948 film still stands,[34] on the old Fox Ranch[35] property in Malibu Creek State Park, in the hills a few miles north of Malibu.[36]
                                          "In real life, the family of the author, Eric Hodgins, built their house in the Litchfield County town of New Milford, Connecticut.[45] In 1945, Hodgins sold, for $38,000, to John Allard, a retired Air Force general.[46] In 1953, for $40,000, Ralph Gulliver, a New Milford fuel dealer, bought the property.[46] In 1972, his son, Jack and Jill Gulliver lived there.[46] It was sold in 1980 for an undisclosed amount,[34][45] and 2004 for $1.2 million.[40]"
                                          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Blandings_Builds_His_Dream_House
                                          Now I'm thinking I want to see the film again!! It's such a treasure.
