    As of TODAY
    March 5, 2020:
    Worldwide
    95,266 Cases and
    3,285 deaths.
    That's a mortality rate of 3.4%.
    USA
    157 Cases and
    11 deaths
    . That's a mortality rate of 7%.
Time to panic? I think not, but you need to decide for yourself.
Meanwhile, according to the CDC from
    Oct 1, 2019 through Feb 22, 2020
    , there were
    32,000,000 to 45,000,000
Flu Cases in the USA, with
    18,000 to 46,000 deaths
. So which disease should we fear the most?

This math is way off. Not claiming it's your math, but it's not correct!
Think about it. If there were 150 cases and 15 deaths the mortality rate would be 10%. 157 cases with 11 deaths is in the 7-8% range.

Your math is off a tad there.
157 cases/11 deaths, that isn't a .07% death rate, that is a 7% death rate. That means it is much much higher than anyone has believed. And the rest of those 157 could still die. This is the end of the world.

To be fair, all 11 deaths have been extremely high risk patients. The number hovered around 10% just days ago, but still not a great start for the old USofA.

I never was good at math, but my late father was brilliant, and was a CPA. That's what I meant, but expressed it incorrectly. I've now corrected it. Thanks.
            PS The most
            important
fact is that there have been
            only 157 cases
in the USA so far. Hardly something to panic about.

Not a problem. The thing is, your influenza numbers aren't compelling either. According to your numbers, which I corroborated, the flu is deadly to about .1% of the infected. Could be as high as .12 or as low as .05
Also, there are over 1000 presumptive cases being tested currently. By this time next week the US will have over 1000 cases and most likely closer to 3000.

Not in the grand scheme of things. With tens of millions infected, tens of thousands is quite small. If the CV maintains it's statistics and would infect hundreds of millions the death toll would be in the millions. If every US citizen would contract the disease, approximately 300 million, approximately 9 million US citizens would die.
Either number can be viewed as compelling, but the biggest number is the most compelling.

Then why are you so distressed by
                    3,285 deaths?
And every American getting CV? Not likely. There are currently
                    157 cases
                    in a population of
                    over 329,358,000
                    !

Where did I ever indicate I was distressed? I just like to keep my hubris in check
I used the word "if". That indicates a hypothetical scenario offered only to illustrate the severity of CV compared to influenza. As your math skills are not the best, I figured large round numbers would be appreciated.

                              And all 11 deaths were
                              in two states
: WA with 10, and CA with 1. Again, hardly anything to panic about. But there are always idiots who
                              will
                              panic.
