Thanks to people like Nolan and Singer, people who went to CBMs thought that the "grounded" way was the ONLY way to make CBMs and held any CBM that didn't go for the grounded way in utter contempt.
The MCU started to defy this in 2008, and it's been an uphill battle ever since thanks to those two.

X1 to 3 are all self-contained films. First Class to Apocalypse Self contained again. Dead pool another self contained film. Meanwhile Someone has to watch Iron Man 1 just to understand Civil War

Up was the most brainless Pixar film with the talking dogs, the Russell kid and him naming a female bird Kevin. God I hated that movie. Then Cars 2 was just plain terrible.
