Xavier looked into Apocalypse mind and saw the same visions Jean had. Apocalypse later talks to Xavier about what he saw and calls it "the glory of what's to come". Then when he sees Jean unleash her power, he says "all is revealed".

And Erik being a holocaust survivor and Quicksilver and Wanda being Magneto's kids was a retcon too. As were Wolverine's bone claws, but you are still one of the people who would have criticised Marvel for changing Wanda/Pietro's parentage (literally had no choice). While you now use that to defend a weak portrayal of Jean that would remove entire elements from the story.

Expect those were good retcons. The Phoenix Force's introduction in the comics was terrible and most fans hated it. It came in years later after Jean's death with:
"Jean was in Jamaica Bay the whole time. The Phoenix is actually a cosmic enitity that took her form and replaced her."
And when have I ever bashed Marvel Studios for making changes? I've only complained about them making Hank and Janet too old to be Avengers. Especially, with Janet since she is the second longest running leader of the Avengers and named the team. She was replaced by an obsured MC2 character(Hope) just so Scott Lang can have a love interest.
And I was littte bit bothered about how the second season stole Bulleye's iconic moment and gave it to some character that wasn't even from the comics.
And remove entire elements? Did you not read the original ending of The Dark Phoenix Saga that Chris Claremont before it got axed by editorial at the last minute? The Shi'ar dealt with Jean by shutting off the part of her brain that was responsible for her mutant powers. I made a thread on it. -

A film script which is fully focused on the Dark Phoneix story arc would be something exciting even though not novel. It's also the perfect opportunity to link the franchise to outer space angles. Not sure who would be a villain strong enough to compete with Dark Phoneix however as Apocalypse was easily defeated within seconds.

It depends. X-Writers lately have been wanking Phoenix like nuts, but the other Marvel editors have been trying to depower her. The current Marvel Editor in Chief said that Odin is more powerful than Phoenix IIRC.

They need to give audiences more time with this new iteration of Jean Grey, who we've literally only spent one film and maybe 15 minutes of screentime with, before rushing once again into The Dark Phoenix saga. Do the filmmakers even understand why that storyline was so popular? I think not. Why should we care about Jean Grey or what happens to her at this point? There's no real emotional connection with this under-developed character.
Singer just wants to get that big firebird on the screen so he can scratch that itch he's had since X2. -

HARD pass
This just gives me more reason to stop going to see these X-Men films. They officially lost me as a fan after this film and with the direction that they are going. I wish they'd just reboot the whole damn thing and start from scratch within the Deadpool timeline.
