I Am Always Surprised By How Many People Supposedly Believe In God…

If there is a Hell I'm just hoping there are different levels, because when I get there I'm going to be seriously pissed off if I find out it's one size fits all.
But then, as Homer Simpson would say, "What are you gonna do?"
According to the "theology" of the show [by which I mean "Lucifer", not "The Simpsons"], from what I've been able to gather so far, Hell is a place where guilty humans punish themselves, in accordance with whatever they have done while on earth. That's how Malcolm described it, anyway. Which raises the question of what the Lord of Hell does, since humans are apparently self-punishing. Is he just there to keep the damned from escaping? But if so, how would they escape? And was Mom the only one who escaped Hell when Amenadiel was incapacitated? Or was the reason she was able to escape because she really was not guilty of any wrong, as she claims?
Many different religious groups have their own version of a get-out-of-hell-free card. For many it is a matter of repeating certain words or prayers as a "confession of faith". Then it doesn't matter what you do on earth, because you are forgiven and you are home-free in Heaven. But the catch is, you have to "really believe" or it doesn't count. Which might in part answer your implied question about why so many people believe in God - belief is like fire insurance, just in case you turn out to need it. Of course, those of the more Calvinist persuasion say that it makes no difference what you do or believe, because God decided where you were headed before you even started life on earth. -

But maybe bad masochists get sent to Heaven, where they can never be tortured. Only good masochists get to go to Hell.
I think you're on to something there. Masochist who were good souls get to go to Hell and the bad ones go to Heaven where they can't torture themselves. Same for Emos! Bad Emos go to Heaven where everything is perfect and happy and the the good ones go to Hell where everything sucks. -

As I said, the logistics could get complicated. Extensive interviewing could be required to determine who should go where. Maybe Lucifer didn't leave Hell to escape the cries of the damned so much as the tedium of the bureaucracy.

I believe in God and I believe (hope) that when I die,I will live again as a new person. If there is a heaven and hell,I believe that it is by our our actions, that we decide if it is one or the other and not God.
free will and all
imperfection is an altogether attainable human goal, and love is acceptance of imperfections. -

No one knows for sure until the time comes. But the common factor is they all claim the good will be rewarded, while the wicked will be punished.
Unfortunately in Christianity, not only do you have to be good, but you have to profess acceptance of Jesus as your lord and savior, or you go to hell (or maybe purgatory if that is a real place).
Only two things are factual we live and we die. What happens after that no one knows. -

Thats rather a blanket statement, not all Christians believe the same way. To me accepting Jesus means accepting salvation as gift that I have not earned. I know Im no better than anyone else. I try to be good (and often fail and try again) in reaction to that gift not in order to achieve it. But, I do not believe those who have chosen a different path are going to Hell. -

Doesn't matter what you or I believe. Pretty that is 100% canon across the board in all LEGITIMATE Christian faiths from Catholism. to Seventh Day Aventist.
Doesn't matter your (not you specifically) personal opinions or beliefs. By legitimate, I mean to ensure the discussion doesn't divert to "progressive" churches that break from norm.
Anyway I am not going to get into a Christian discussion as it never ends well with all involved.
I'd rather stick to the comics and the TV show. -

Salvation offered freely
is
LEGITIMATE cannon across many mainline Christian faiths. It's not an idea of a few progressive breakaway churches.

The OP posted about what
people
believe. IMO that leaves the discussion open to personal opinions or beliefs as much as to institutions.

Fair enough but there are times when people make a statement about what Christian's believe that I can't just let it stand as if all of us believe this way. -

One person's god or gods is not another person's.
One person's version of an afterlife is not the same as anothers'.
Even Christians disagree with one another.
I read about a poll they did earlier this year and in it, the majority of Christians polled said they believe that almost everyone will go to heaven.
"Can you keep a secret? Can you know something and never speak of it again?"
