I am still pissed off about the fact that this show was canceled! Just yesterday I listened to an interview with Greg Weisman, about Spectacular Spider-Man, he said it was originally going to be a 5 season (65 episode) show that aged Peter all the way though high school, and once the show would have ended they were going to make a series of DTVs taking peter though his college years and they would have been more mature. In the interview said they were building up to big events and character relations just barley hinted at in the first two seasons. But then Disney had to go and cancel it just because they didn't want to partner up with any company other than themselves (in this case sony).
I've seen a few episodes here and there of Young Justice, and I'm not a big fan. I probably wont check out Ultimate Spider-Man as nothing in the trailer remotely sparks my interest.
I've really done everything I can, I signed the petition which now has over 1700 signatures, not that that means anything now that Greg Weisman is doing Young Justice and Victor Cook, Scooby Doo. But to quote something Greg Weisman said in the interview, we shouldn't let the fact that the series was cancelled early dampen the brilliant television that the first two seasons of Spectacular really were. I own both seasons on DVD for anytime I want escape to what I believe is not only the greatest media adaption of any marvel character, but also the greatest solo animated series of all time and one of my favorite television shows ever. And for making this true masterpiece of the television medium, I thank everyone involved in The Spectacular Spider-Man.

I know this show probably isn't quite as fantastic as I make it seem, but these are a few reasons why I love it so much.
Something that made this show so special for is the the fact that I was nearly the same age a Peter though out the first two seasons, if the show had continued the way Greg Weisman had intended he would have aged with me though high school and even college. Because of this Peter often times experienced similar issues as I did in high school. I saw every episode the day it aired, I was there for the premiere and I was there for the finale.
When the Midsummer Night's Dream episode aired, my english class had just finished reading it, there was a very Flash Thompson like character at my school who read Bottoms lines, and knew all the lines when they were said on the episode, and it was just too perfect.
Watching this show in, I had so many similarities to Peter it was easy to imagine I was watching my self on TV, I was Spider-Man!

This show was, in my opinion, to Spider-man what Batman:TAS was to Batman. I wish it had continued so badly.

Will this be the resurrection of the SSM board?

I want to say that I really liked you're post. I check this forum from time to time and it is usually sadly empty. Like you I still haven't got over the cancellation and I doubt that I ever will. Spectacular Spider-Man is for me what Elsa Bannister was for Michael O'Hara.
"Maybe I'll live so long that I'll forget her. Maybe I'll die trying."
That's how I think back about the show. I mean the 65 episodes, the series of DTV movies that could have been PG-13 I usually try not to think about what we could have had, it hurts to much. I also signed the petition despite knowing that it wouldn't do any good. I never knew that I could get so attached to a cartoon until I saw this. Gargoyles, DCAU, Spider-Man: The Animated Series non of the series I loved as a kid or still likes today could even come close to how much I loved this one.
Unlike you though I haven't managed to re watch the show. I watched a clip once and it made me so depressed that I had to stop watching. I really want to re watch the cartoon and be thankful for the fact that we actually got 26 amazing episodes. I just hope that I will be able to watch it again one day.
When the choice is between a American and a Russian film, always choose the latter.

I totally agree. I never watched this show on tv. Never heard of it. A couple of months ago I saw the first season on DVD. I thought it was something I could watch with my 5 and 10 year old sons. It is awesome. I can't believe how good this show is. Currently looking for season 2. It is very sad this was cancelled before it's time.

Why do shows this good have such bad luck ?
I don't know what kind of legacy it will have with fans in the future but I think it will always be the quintessential solo Spidey series to me. It was a show that took me by surprise from the first episode and always managed to exceed my expectations with each one that followed. Even if we never get any wrap up or continuation I hope that Marvel eventually seeks ownership of the series so that there might be some life for it after its demise and continue to gain new fans with some kind of tv presence.

Its really sad they cancelled it. It just kept getting better and better as it went on. I can only hope they'll bring it back together at some point.

Agreed. This show lived up to its name: it truly was spectacular. I too would like to thank everyone involved with this show for bringing us such a great adaptation of Spidey.
