This has to be one of the most ignorant threads I've ever seen on the subject of agnosticism. Everybody here actually believes agnosticism has only to do with religious beliefs.

I'm an agnostic and happy for it. As humans we'll never truly know what's going on in our lifetimes, life is too mysterious. When we solve one thing, we either keep it or rewrite it as we go along. And even then, the important questions in life are never answered. Or never gonna be answered, ever.
Besides, we just have beliefs and theories. Neither are truly fact (though i'm willing to side with theories just for the sake of the argument). And it's a little narrowminded to think that if we are indecisive about life beyond then we should be decisive on things like unicrons and griffins. It's not just the man made God and the moral Jesus we are indecisive about. If a God does exist, it can easily be explained as a force more than a personification of an invisible old guy living in the clouds. I'm open to the belief that there's something out there we don't know about, rather than just flat out disbelieve or worship something that just isn't provable.
But I choose not to be bothered with such things. Life is too short either way. Whether we continue to live or eternally rest in peace, bottom line is we'll never live this life ever again. Live the moment and make the most of it, that's what's really important.

a persons rational mind is a very small part of what it means to be a person I think. to intellectually denounce a God is one thing, althou opinions doesnt always come from rational.
A need for God can maybe be explained by want of security and meaning. What happens after ew die for ex. And sure, maybe its just the fear of death that is scary, not death itself.
And we have already been "dead" once (at least), before we were born? As far as we know, since we only can look at death from the outside.
But Im just saying, u might not have an idea what youre capable of beliving. Like in the Matrix."Being the ONE is like being in LOVE, you just know it!!"
Maybe its the same with beliving in God. I mean God is said to be love. not like love, BE love. Maybe we could learn exactly why people fall in love. But still its not the part of our brain that has to do with reason. it just IS. And since its not that part of the brainmaybe KNOWING WITH LOGIC if there is a God is impossible? Feelings are thus like another SEPERATE "WORLD" OF PERCEPTION??? Maybe you cant get to it with logic ever?
Sorry this is really hippie-ranting I know!!And theres still just the "I dont know" thing but anywayI just think that logic is a dogma, or an "-ism" like all the others. A point of view, nothing more. Its not a complete final approach to life above all else! And theres always something you havent thought of, or experienced!!
I dont like when people knock on my door trying to "peddle" Jesus on me. But I wouldnt wanna try and impose my "atheism" on them either.
I think its extremly arrogant to say that there is no God, as an "objective truth for everyone". I can only say that I dont belive.
Sayin THIS IS THE TRUTH . is why there are so many wars! I BELIEVE 😉
But yeah, relativism is a selective viewpoint aswell. But I dont think its better then anyone elses to start with. Not that I thought you thought that about your views eather.
Maybe some people think they dont NEED the idea of God, and maybe thats because they dont "underst111cand" that there going to die???? Nevermind proof of God. I have NO IDEA what Im gonna FEEL in my last moments!
                Im NOT a believer. Yet.
Im a swede I cant spell sorry bout that.

And geniuses like mjilek are right up there with people who discuss theology and mock agnostics on a movie website. I can't wait until he disproves the theory of relativeity on the Lon Chaney message board. Should be another best seller.

Don't judge people's religious views by their religious labels, everyone has different beliefs no matter what their label is. Take them for what they are.

I believe in a higher power - if not a believer in what religions claim about it - but I do respect agnostics. To be fair, the logical conclusion in the God debate is that we just don't know. It's just, some people don't like such ambiguity, and feel a need to make a choice, as I and many others do.

That is a strange quote since he doesn't seem (according to his quotes that I've read, he obviously had his own private thoughts on the matter) to have made up his mind on what religion to follow either.
I respect the right people have to be religious, atheists, or agnostics. Whether I respect an individual's decision well, it depends on why they make the decision. Sometimes individuals' decisions about what religion they will choose to follow or choose NOT to follow are motivated by ignorance or hatred. I have no respect for atheists who hate religious people for being "mindless idiots clinging to ridiculous ideology", or vice versa.

Agnosticism is from greek and means 'without knowledge.' This often means that agnosticism is mislabelled as the middle ground between theism and atheism. Since it is impossible to disprove any evidence for a god then most atheists will have a degree of agnosticism in them, however because there is also no evidence of there being a god they choose not to live their lives under the assumption that there is one.

The thing is I think everyone, even the most religious or the most unbending aetheist is, jsut a little, agnostic. I honestly don't believe that everyone can be 100% sure about anything they can't prove, even if they say they are or want to be. As for Welles himself, the dude has always seemed sorta crazy, at least to me,so I take most of his comments quite lightly. His point probably was that he wants people to be more decisive than simply saying "I don't know".
