As corny as it sounds, today is my 3 year "anniversary" with Ewan. [laughs] Ah yes exactly 3 years ago today, I watched

I "discovered" Mr. McGregor after watching "The Long Road Home" episode of
the television series "E.R." I had heard about about him prior to seeing this
and was intrigued by what I heard, but had never seen any of his work. This
man's talent blows me away. (It doesn't hurt that he is drop dead gorgeous as
well.) In addition, I have heard and seen that he is a modest man who doesn't
take his "superstardom" too seriously, is rearing his children away from the
spotlight, (doesn't spoil them), is devoted to his wife (an attractive woman,
but not "Hollywood Gorgeous"). While he takes his work seriously, he has said
that acting is not his be all and end all in life. When he was younger, he
said that he smoked and drank to excess at times. Later, in his late twenties
early thirties, he decided that this might lead him down the wrong path, and
quit both. I think that this shows Mr. McGregor has great strength of character.
He also once stated "just because I earn a good income, doesn't mean I should
give my daughter a pony or anything else she may want, at least not right away."
Recently, a photo was published of Ewan kissing Jim Carrey on the mouth. (In
a "congratulatory way.") An interviewer on "Good Morning America" tried to make
something of it. He just shrugged it off and basically said "I like Jim and
enjoyed working with him. Why would this still be an issue in 2010? Who cares?
From everything that I have heard, he is happily (and monogamously) married to
a woman. Yet he is not afraid to act in films very frank in the their depiction
of homosexuality. And, he does not seem to be worried about his image and/or
career to be photographed kissing another man. And finally while he seems to
be kind to fans who enjoy his work, he does not suffer "obsessives." He once
said that an obviously over the top "Star Wars' fan said to him (in an airport?)
"Obie-Wan, do you have any advice for a young Jedi in training?" Ewan
replied "Don't be ridiculous." (I would have loved to have seen the look on that
man's face.)
To sum up, I think Mr. McGregor has the right attitudes and values that other
actors and actresses should emulate. (Are you listening, Charlie Sheen?)
I am attempting to collect all of Mr. McGregor's work on DVD, and have a large
collection of magazines with him on the cover. I would love to meet him someday
and discuss his acting, among his other interests. (I probably won't bring out
everything in my collection to show him (at least not all at once), lest he
accuse me of "being ridiculous" (lol!)
Just bought a two disc collectors set of "Moulin Rouge." I bought it a a local
garage sale. I did not pay a "ridiculous" price for it.
Long may Mr. McGregor's career continue and prosper. -

I think the first time I saw him was 'Trainspotting'. I will watch anything he is in because I respect him as an actor, he has yet to choose a role that I haven't enjoyed viewing, all the way back to 'Shallow Grave'. I rooted for Alex lol. Honestly brilliant actor, and one of the very best of modern cinema.

I agree as well with your statement about Star Wars. I also first saw him in the Tales from the Crypt episode and then Trainspotting. But the movie that did me in was Eye of the Beholder. I'm also a huge fan of Ashley Judd which is why I fell in love with both of them. That movie just has so many layers to me. There is something about that movie that just gets me going and I either cry or just kinda shake. I just can't stop seeking out all of Ewan's movies. I've seen almost all of them but Scarlet & the Black is hard to find.
So many great roles he has played. I love the off beat ones that no one ever mentions like Pillow Book. Its always about Star Wars or Moulin Rouge. But don't get me wrong, I do love those too. -

I don't know exactly how long ago it was, I'm guestimating about 3 years ago that my best friend showed me Long Way Round on dvd. LWD hadn't come out yet so I know it had to have been pre-07. Anyway, I didn't expect to like it all that much, but the more I watched, and the more Ewan's beautiful blonde beard filled in the more you got to know his personality and humor and see all that he and Charley went through as they biked around the world by about half way through I was completely hooked. I was struck by his lovliness, again, his sense of humor, his bursting into song in Russia, the cameraderie that he and Charley shared Ewan just seemed to be such a decent guy with a big heart so that won me over most of all.

15 years ago. I snuck in to the front room when I was 6 to watch Shallow Grave, because my parents said I wasn't allowed, and I wasn't going to stand for THAT! (Yes, I was that kind of kid.) Luckily for me and my psyche, I fell asleep at the very beginning, and woke up to Christopher Eccleston smacking Kerry Fox. When Ewan defended her and got stabbed, I was worried for him. When I saw what he'd done with the money I admired him, even though I had NO idea what the hell the plot was, (it was the music!) And it was Star Wars 1 in the cinema when I loved him. Sighs!

Everyone's stories are so damn cute! haha wow I can't believe the number of years for all of you and I've only got 3 under my belt. And to who ever said "I like have actors all to myself" (I'm sorry I'm7ec writing the reply and too lazy to go see who it was) Yes it certainly is! I was telling my mom that he was just on Letterman the other day and then ellen yesterday and she said "What? He is trying to be an actor now?" and I'm like "Mom! He's done other talk shows"
More and more people are finding out about himI'm not liking it. No no I'm kinding but it is funny though, my uncle called me before and said "I just finished listening to the radio and their was an interview on with your friend Ewan McGregor" and I'm like "WHAT STATION!" he said "I listened to it during the day, he seems like a pretty good guy. He didn't sound like a jerk at all. He was very nice and cool." I'm like "That's my Ewan!"
My uncle said they talked about Othello alot, and like every one of his movies. He said that Ewan said his favorite at the moment is when he plays a gay lover. I said "Yeah thats 'I Love You Phillip Morris'" He wants to see it now. Then my uncle finally says, "hes been in SO many movies" and I said "Yup, and I've seen them all."
Oh Ewan McGregor, why must you be so adorably perfect?
Peace -

Well, I experienced the 60s, so I'm much older than you. Therefore, I have loved Ewan McGregor since the brilliant and disturbing little film called "Trainspotters." And the other day I realized that he did much of the solo singing in "Moulin Rouge" and almost died of love. What a voice. The Celts are notable for their singing, and that beautiful man from Glasgow (who did an amazing interview with Craig Ferguson, also Glaswegean recently)is no exception to the rule. The Scots may not be as famous for their singing as the Irish and the Welsh, but Ewan blew me away with his voice! Check out the soundtrack to that movie. I guarantee you'll be a puddle on the floor when he sings "This is Your Song" by Elton John, or some hack pianist like that. LOL

Hmmm for as long as I can remember! I don't even know when it started, probably with Trainspotting but I was too young to really get that film - just thought he was pretty! He's always been one of my favourite actors, can't pin-point from when. I've only really appreciated it as I've got older though, and watched back at older stuff like Shallow Grave and Life Less Ordinary. Just brilliant.

Only just recently (the past 12 months or so) since rediscovering my complete Star Wars obsession. (Complete SciFi geek)
And seeing how long some of you have been nutty about him makes me feel like a little kid. (I recently turned 20!)
