Well, it's not exactly Spielberg's fault that he worked with LaBeouf on Transformers and Indy 4 rather than Lincoln and Bridge of Spies.

Lincoln and Bridge of Spies also suck. Lost his edge.

That is both wrong and beep stupid. Those movies (along with "Munich", but you'd probably consider that one too old to matter) are two of the smartest and savviest political dramas released by Hollywood in years.
Also, what is "edge"? How to you quantify it? When, specifically, did Spielberg lose it?

I faintly remember that you've been on the Spielberg boards since forever, and you might be his biggest living fan. No point or patience in arguing with you.
I actually own Munich on dvd and I do think that, along with War of the Worlds, it's his final worthwhile film.
You don't quantify edge, you just feel it.
Read Pauline Kael's final assessment of Spielberg: the most celebrated film critic of her time argued as early as the 90's that Spielberg had lost his edge.
I personally think that he began to be slipping seriously with Always (1989) and Hook (1991). But he didn't lose his edge completely until much later, by the time of Indiana Jones 4.

Saying "You don't quantify edge" nullifies the argument. You're essentially admitting you're arguing a fault that can't be described or calculated. It's empty posturing.

Shia Labeouf for all his usual general idiocy said something really intelligent about Spielberg recently: that he's not so much a director now as he is a corporation. I think he was a very talented director once who sold out too much.

Spielberg has made excellent films throughout his career and to say otherwise is disingenuous to me. He's undoubtedly lost his edge overtime andb68 I do agree with Shia's assessment about his corporate essence, but the man's an important filmmaker.

Certainly, Spielberg isn't at the top of his game right now, but he still puts out very decent movies. Bridge of Spies was good and Lincoln was great.

Michael Jordan has already won the six champion ships, why another for one riding his sack. Shia has no class. You disrespect Spielberg, therefore you have sinned.

A film isn't about any one actor or his vanity. Even as someone who doesn't like most of Spielberg's films, this feels like the type of grandstanding a self-serving actor would take up only after being in an acclaimed indie. SS didn't direct those Transformers movies, Bay didunless he's suggesting the former has more authorship on the actors' performances tha111cn the actual director. I get that SL wants to be taken seriously as an Artist and stirring up anti-corporatist sentiments is a good way to earn brownie points with the pretentious cine-hipsters, but maybe people should look within themselves for faults before trashing others.

Shia is a nutjob but I can't fault anyone for speaking honestly. This Speilberg is not in the same universe of director he once was. I can't remember the last time he did anything exciting or great. Sad but true.
