To start, I completely disagree with the idea that Kate is too old to be in Underworld. She has done a great job and I expect that she will be able to continue.
But, to be fair, with Bill Nighy, his case is slightly different. He was supposed to be older. His character was transformed into a vampire as an old man. If I recall correctly, he was basically on his death bed before receiving the offer to become immortal and lead an army.

She's only in her 40s, so no. I see no reason a woman in her 40s, in particular one who looks as spectacular as Kate, shouldn't headline an action movie.
