The other poster has a point. Her face really does look a lot different from how it did in the original Jurassic Park. Obviously that movie was made nearly 30 years ago, so a certain amount of aging is to be expected. However, her face does look strange now. She was never a stunningly attractive woman, but her face was kind of attractive in the first movie but not now. Contrast her with Sam Neill - he is in his mid-70s now, but his face has exhibited normal aging and he looks like an older version of the same person from the first movie. But Dernβs face looks completely different now. Maybe she is ill or has a thyroid issue?

She just looks old for her age. In Jurassic Park I think she was only 25 but she looks at least 35.
I personally never had a problem with her looks. She just isn't a very good actress, found her annoying in every movie I've seen her in. -
