Certainly better than Sean Connery’s final movie, “League of extraordinary Gentlemen”.
Funny how they were born the same year and both retired the same year at the same age, for the exact same reasons.

Sorry, couldn't help.
Apart from it, that Sir Sean Connery didn't have health issues, Gene Hackman had. -

Connery had surgery for a kidney tumor around 2005, I bet his dementia started creeping up when he agreed to do that League of Gentleman movie too.
Either way, they both couldn’t deal with the stress of the movie-business anymore. -

Connery had kidney surgery in 2006.
His dementia started in his final years.
He became 90 years old and died 2020. -

Yes, and that’s the year he said he was retiring.
He had full on dementia in his final years, but the initial symptoms and process usually starts a lot earlier, which likely influenced his decision as well -

If Connery said in 2006 (kidney surgery) that he retires, it wasn't the same year as Hackman.
So this part of
your
spooky theory wouldn't work either.
And even though dementia can start earlier, usually nobody calls the last 15 (!) years
"final"
.
Here's another source:
Mr Connery’s family said that he had been unwell for some time
and had developed dementia in his final months.

Yeah, the movie might look good on paper and they don’t know what the final product will look like or if it bombs or is a blockbuster.
Plus they got big bills to pay.
