Penn is sympathetic to his cause. That says enough.
Penn acknowledges El Chapo's murder victims and drug addicts at the beginning of his piece. He has no illusion that the man is dangerous.
Now we can handle this like gentleman or we can get into some old gangster sh*t -

Also "Communist" really?
We're living in a country where calling someone a Communist is still used as a pejorative. Like most on the right,I believe OP is still living in the cold war.

A Caviar Socialist. A rich guy who lives in a Democracy, enjoys freedom of speech and the advantages of a Capitalist society and yet makes passes at leftist dictators like Cuba's Castro, Chavez and every other left wing despot because he thinks he'll look smart and rebellious supporting communist dictators. Hollywood is flooded to the brim with **** like this guy: Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, Vanessa RED-Grave and every other rich caviar eating hypocrite you can think of who owns a house in Beverly Hills and sing the International.

Funny, but with all his resume, awards, and accolades, I can't remember seeing anything current; even
"MILK!"
The only movies of his I have in my collection is from the beginning;
"FT@RH"
and
"Bad Boys"
believe it or not! My lone fave is
"Falcon & The Snowman"
so he shouldn't be surprised he's in pictures trolling around Mexico then meeting El C!http://www.childrenofrassilon.com/fiero425.html

the problem with what sean penn did is he doesn't understand the true nature of person like el chapo because he lets his emotions cloud his judgement like all liberals . This guy wouldn't think twice about selling out sean penn to save his own ass thats how scumbags like el chapo think .Now he's in big trouble with our government for helping a known criminal knowing where the guy was and not saying nothing about it ..Bad move sean .
words have power but when you use them in every sentence the power is weakened " -

This thread should be titled: How many times can you say despicable and disgusting in a post?
Plenty of other words to choose.
And targeting one actor isn't going to change your life.
Isn't it rather convenient to think so low of someone? It's harder to actually see them as a person. -

What makes Penn a Communist? Or a criminal for that matter? "So much more", can you please be specific, OP? Run out of C words?
I felt at the beginning that Penn's involvement with Joaquin Guzman was foolish.
I read the article in Rolling Stone. It was at least interesting to read how he finally came to meet up with Guzman and spend a few hours with him. I fail to see what harm any of this has done to the OP, the US government, the American public or any other IMDB posters.
