Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jerry Seinfeld

    hermanfransson — 17 years ago(January 05, 2009 05:27 AM)

After all Ive read here I am jiggered about that many people seems to dont like JS.
Ive always thought that he was publicly loved and that the most people in US miss him on TV but after what Ive read here it seems like the most people cant stand him I dont understand why.
Seems like a lot of haters out there thinks that Larry David was the REAL creator of the show and that Seinfeld just had the big luck.
    I think that is ridiculous!
Cmon, the show went better and better and was just as good as before when Larry David left the show.
Its exactly the same as John Lennon - Paul McCartney.
Most people think that Lennon did all the real good stuff in the Beatles. Its not true. If you listen to all the Beatles album you will figure that Paul did at least as good songs as John maybe even better if you asking me.
So what I cant understand is why everyone think hes just useless and nasty and got no tal2000ent?
I know he said some words about the woman who claimd that his wife did copy that cookbook. That was not so bad. Thats the way he is. And you got to understand that hes taking his wifes side.
The Larry King-thing was just a joke. Maybe not a funny joke but still. of course he wasnt angry at King, why should he?
Hes the best stand-up comedian ever. One of the few stand-up comedian worth the name comedian and his work in Seinfeld is a heritage to the world, its more than a sitcom. I think it is a real masterpiece.
This man is genius with or without Larry David!

I think the Paul McCartney and John Lennon comparison was apt. Unfortunately, it worked against you.
John Lennon's career after the Beatles was much more successful and produced better tunes then anything Wings accomplished. Curb Your Enthusiasm is a great (if at times formulaic) show, cannot say anything too great about Jerry's post-Seinfeld career though.

Hmm, that is wrong. Paul McCartney had the most successful career after Beatles. So I dont see what youre talking about.
So you think Bee Movie is a bad movie, right? It is as good as any other animated movie with a sense of great humor. By the way, did you know that JS is touring all the time?
Hes done with tv-shows, and I can understand that after 9 years of doing one show.

          Yeah, by outliving John.
Victor Lewis-Smith said it best: "The Beatles are all dying in the wrong order". Except everyone knows George was the most l77t of the crew.
No, I haven't seen Bee Movie and only heard mixed to OK things about it. I've read from the board he is touring again. Bless his little cotton socks, clearly he ain't in it for the money. It's just to get him out to do something, just nothing spectacular like Curb is. Sorry.

It seems to me that you are that kind of person that listen to what some wiseacre say is right or wrong.
            I sugges16d0t 3 things:

            1. Open your mind and think with your own taste
            2. Listen to all the Beatles album and discover that Paul McCartney DID more than Yesterday.
            3. Watch all sesions of Seinfeld and youll find that the show didnt get worse after Larry David left the show. Again, think for yourself!

Nope. Otherwise I'd be listening to Coldplay. But hey, thanks for the arbitrary, incorrect and insulting psychoanalysis!

              1. Open your mind and think with your own taste
Coming from the guy who said Paul McCartney is better because his career was more successful? Honestly, not a huge fan of either John or Paul's solo careers, it's just that the few Lennon songs I've heard don't make me barf as much as just about all of Paul's. IMHO however, All Things Must Pass, beats anything by either of the two. Easily.
              2. Watch all sesions of Seinfeld and youll find that the show didnt get worse after Larry David left the show. Again, think for yourself!
I have (just about) and still not in agreement with you. Maybe the fact other people come to same conclusion that the quality dropped a bit has more to do with the fact it really has slipped a little?

I like Jerry. But let me just address this Beatles thing McCartney was the superior Beatle and he made better music after the break up. RAM was genius.

Lennon was the genius though. Despite how their careers went after they broke up. We all know Yoko messed up Lennon. You don't see anyone trying to shoot McCartney in a rush. Just because Lennon was a genius doesn't discredit the others; my favourite song came from George Harrison "Here Comes The Sun". Lennon had a different way of seeing the world. This is what made him a genius.
Seinfeld dipped when LD left (I didn't even know he left until just now, so this view was formed prior to knowing). It started to dip during season 7 and wasn't as good during 8. I've just spent the last few weeks watching every season back to back (never seen it before). Best season is 4!!! Closely followed2000 by 5.
The standard does dip but it's still good, but you can tell that cutting edge just isn't there. It's the little things in the details.

No I would say the show was even better when Larry David left as the last couple of seasons were some of the best ones. Larry David didn't make show what it is on his own. That's why Curb Your Enthusiasm is not that funny.

It seems this thread has gone off on a bit of a Beetles tear, but allow me to address your original question. I certainly don't intend to speak for everyone, but as for myself and some others, I don't like JS for a few reasons. For one, I don't really find him funny. His stand-up nor his show make me laugh. His entire style doesn't even give me a chuckle. "Whatis the dealwith cab drivers? Who arethese people?!" I'm sorry, I don't find that style funny. In fact, I fink it downright annoying.
OK, thats the technical problem I have with him, now onto the personal.
I get the massive feeling when I watch him, that he is secretly a horribly mean and stuck up person hiding it behind a facade of niceness. Now this isn't just me, there are scores of people who get the same feeling about him. Just look at the threads here alone. When I watch him and he seems to be being all nice, I get the feeling that I'm watching a con artist. That his entire nice guy act is just that, an act. That he is completely full of himself and conceited to the max. When he's in an interview and laughing and seemingly having a good time, I get the same feeling I get when I'm buying a new car and some sleazy slimeball car salesman slides up next to me and pretends like he is actually my friend and he wants to help me out. He just wants to make a sale and I get the feeling that JS just wants to sell himself in the same way.
So, I am not entertained by him and he comes off as a jackass pretending to be nice. So why should I like him?

"His entire style doesn't even give me a chuckle. "Whatis the dealwith cab drivers? Who arethese people?!" I'm sorry, I don't find that style funny. In fact, I fink it downright annoying."
He's never even told a joke like that before. Have you even watched his standup or just parodies of him? Because the parodies are nothing like his act. Jerry has never said "what's the deal" or "who are these people" and has humorously complained about this a lot of times on talk shows (David Letterman, Howard Stern).
In Seinfeld he did say "What's the deal with airplane peanuts?" to parody these accusations however.
