I think he's a homo. He has a nice softness and even feminine quality about himself.
I liked watching him in some films, especially
Mask - '85
and
Some Kind Of Wonderful - '87
. Nice contrast because he was portrayed as very handsome in Wonderful, compared to his disfigured performance in
Mask
.

Well, he kissed Ralph Macchio for a film called Naked in New York. There is a Chicago Tribune article where Stoltz admitted that he wanted to star in Philadelphia.
Also, Stoltz wrote a 1996 New York Times article titled Gay Rights Victory Is Not Without Hitches. -

Yeah! He’s a f@g.
He got canned from Back To Future for not having the right comic timing apparently. Fox is perfect, but I’d say Fox was the first choice all along. When he suddenly became available Stoltz got dropped.
Stoltz was not a bad actor. The film sold on Fox’s name and Eric had Mask released that same year.

And he was also in the 2000 Showtime gay/lesbian anthology film Common Ground, with the late Brittany Murphy, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Jason Priestley, Margot Kidder, Mimi Rogers, etc.
Goddamnit, man! You done made me hurt my dick hand. (Phone Booth, 2002)
