i honestly cannot say what emma thompson has said about the church or the gestapo or both because those are your words: she talks about the church like it's the gestapo.
but here is what i have to say about the church and the gestapo:
the church has created and shared the same terror tactics as gestapo,
has used the same methods of torture and execution as the gestapo,
was issuing certificates of blood purity long before nazi germany started doing so.
The Nuremberg laws of 1935 can be traced all the way back to the Jewry law of 1268: "The jews are deprived of the protection of their natural rights and condemned to eternal misery for their sins"
I would suggest you read Jonathan Kirsch: The Grand Inquisitor Manual (a history of terror in the name of god)
Also i would suggest you do a research on Google: photos and/or videos of catholic cardinals and archbishops in podiums with gestapo officers making pro nazi speeches and saluting Adolf Hitler.
Am i giving it to you straight Angus-8 or do you want more detailed information and photos?
are you interested to know what Hitler, Stalin and pope Innocent III, all had in common? they all used the same word (filth) about their victims and saw themselves as the cleansing hand of god
Remember that if nazi germany had won the war, the catholic church would still be by it's side. just because they lost, does not mean that the connection they shared is not there. -

No, what I want is for you to support my thesis that Thompson is a demagogue and a bigot. Now, it seems you can't do that directly, but if you can demonstrate the foundations of that demagoguery and bigotry, that's good, too. Thanks.

Anyway i like Emma Thompson, watch all her films and marvel at her command of English language and her use of spoken word. and i really like 'the remains of the day' both the book and the movie. i actually translated and subtitled the movie in the Albanian language together with Pulp Fiction in 2001 precisely because of the different use of language in each film

indeed these people sneaking in the disgusting assault that is the insult of anti-semitism i know many jews who are extremely critical of israel, even more so than emma thomposon thr16d0owing the word anti-semitism around like hitler-comparisons is hardly political, in fact it is anti-political. it is a cheap and tasteless move that degrades the victims of the holocaust by reducing the evil of the holocaust to something as banal as a critical perception of the politics of israel there is antisemitism and it has been a part of european history and in fact culture and there is a state of israel today, which has a military and quite a military it is, which has a secret service and quite a secret service it is, a police force and authoritarian politicans . and quite they are
being critical of conservative israeli politics, is not only necessary, it s part of a real political discourse. it s part of a democracy and israel is very much funded by european and american states. it is a political issue. not simply an issue between people who are so called anti-semitic and people who are what exactly? pro-israel? reasonable? what do they pretend to be? i am in favor of discourse and asking questions being critical towards institutionalized power.
there needs to be accountability and there need to be people who demand accountability but then there will always be people who will call those who don't comply traitors, or terrorists or antisemites
and there will always be antisemites, as there will always be people who are racists, but how dare these people calling emma thompson an antisemite simply because she asks questions, simply because she dares to let those that suffer speak emma thomposon is engaging a political discourse, people calling her antisemite are trying to shut it up it s appalling.. -

She2000's pro-Palestinian, not anti-Semitic. She simply sides with Palestine and acknowledging their right to exist. That doesn't mean she hates Jews or want them extinct.
If she was anti-Semitic, really really anti-Semitic, I doubt she would have worked with Mike Nichols, Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Gyllenhaal and other Jewish actors. True anti-Semites would refuse to even work or co-act with these and other Jews. That would be going against their belief. But she has worked with them all and in some instances she's even best buddies with them.
And even if she's anti-Semite, so what? Is that a crime? No one seems to complain when people makes anti-Muslim remarks or anti-anything. -

Calling people who criticize Israel for anti-Semitic is beyond ridiculous. That actually undermines the whole fight against actual anti-Semitism.
Not to mention it might set a standard where people will be afraid to criticize Israel or other countries. Every country hould be criticized without accusations of ant anything. Criticizing Israel doesn't make anyone anti-Semitic, it just means that person acknowledges Palestine's right to exist. -

Meryl Streep isn't Jewish. But apart from that I mostly agree with you, although I would never defend someone's anti-Semitism. Not that Thompson is an anti-Semite(being pro-Palestinian is not the same as being an anti-Semite).
