Best Actor in 1934 for "Twentieth Century" one of the greatest comic performances on film.
Best Supporting Actor in 1939 for "Midnight."

I totally agree with you jmartello. So by 1939 Jack should've had a mantelpiece full of oscars!!

I would normally agree with 20th Century award- but I must say that Gable definately deserved it that year for It Happened One Night. Incredible movie and I think one of the best (If not the best) Gable performances ever. I really enjoyed Barrymore in 20th Cetury, Dinner at Eight and Grand Hotel best.

Twentieth Century. Good though Gable was in It Happened One Night, it's an easy role for him, coasting along on charm alone. Barrymore manages to gain sympathy for an utterly self-obsessed control freak character, and he's funnier than Gable into the bargain.

I really loved his comedies. "Twentieth Century", ("I Close The Iron Door On You") and "The Great Man Votes", a real funny movie. "Midnight" with Claudette Colbert and Don Ameche.

If pressed, maybe The Great Man Votes.

                                I give him two wins:
                                Twentieth Century
                                and
                                Dinner At Eight
                                . Such an incredible actor.

He was great in Romeo and Juliet but that would have been for best SUPPORTING actor. Different than your question.
