I can't believe she was 54 when she played 'Glenda'. Man was she holding it down in the age area.

When I heard that she was 54 when she was in the Wizard of Oz, I was shocked! She didnt look 54!

a great beauty in her day (she had cosmetics and things named for her) Billie was a well-preserved lady. A critic remarked of Glinda "Billie Burke looks about twenty" -heehee

I love watching anything with Billie Burke; the sense of fun is contagious, and nobody else had such a light masterful touch with comedy. I thought she was outstanding in nearly everything she did, and will always fondly remember her for Topper and the Wizard Of Oz, if nothing else. One thing that I always forget is how lovely she was; her appearance was always second to her skills, and it always comes as a bit of a sho5b4ck, that such a wonderfully skilled actress was quite gorgeous. That's the way it should be.

There's THE GREATEST saying attributed to her:
"Age is not important, unless you are a cheese"
                    So true, so true.

Other than as the good witch in "Wizard Of Oz" and a ghost with Cary Grant in the movie "Topper", my main remembrance of her is on a record my paternal grandparents had by Tennessee Ernie Ford, in which he sang an old song called "Take Your Girlie To The Movies". One of the lines was "Though she's just a simple little ribbon clerk, close your eyes and think you're kissing Billie Burke".
She was a lovely lady who held her beauty a long, long time, RIP Billie.

If you like Billie, you should see her in a little-known, but funny, movie called Merrily We Live. She plays a ditzy matriarch of a well-to-do family. She frustrates her family by continually taking in tramps with the idea of reforming them. She's hysterical!

only a while ago and I must admit that she sure was sup5b4er attractive for a woman only in her late forties when the film was made.

She was an absolute gem, and wonderful in everything she did, whether it be comedy or drama. I've just finished watching "Topper Returns" (again!!!) In a great ensemble cast Billie Burke just shines!
