Meryl…

Can I act better than Meryl? Of course not. That, at my school, would be sacrilege.
But yes, I can act. I can act7ec quite well, thank you very much. When the best high school theatre department in the state is nudging you to go to college to study acting, you have to have SOME talent. Honestly, I'm a much better director than I am an actress. But I spent three years studying seriously seriously enough that, had I gone to college for acting, I could have skipped the intro course and possibly the next level up as well.
Does that answer your question?

ETA: I AM SO SORRY. I thought you had replied to me
However, I'm going to leave this up here in case anyone else wants to take potshots at my credibility. -

Now your just writing to see your own words what your saying is utterly ridiculous. If you don't like her for whatever reason fine but don't be ignorant for the sake of argument. You sound very bitter also I think maybe your letting your emotions get the best of you.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride. -

I've heard that's not true. What happened was the financial backers of the film wanted him off but director Michael Cimino refused to fire him. Instead, he accommodated John by fi2000lming the scenes he appeared in first in case he became too ill to work and had to leave. The story about Meryl was that she took her part in the movie to be near him. She was an up-and-coming actress at the time but not exactly a big name.

You obviously don't know how to discuss on the internet - you can have your opinion of "celebs" (I won't even call her an actor) without going ballistic on people. First of all, this isn't the kiss Meryl's butt board. This is John's board. Go to the Meryl board if you want to put her on a throne. You're one of the sheep, I guess. And I'm an Awful Human Being. Ok. If not being a FAN of Streep's with EVERYONE ELSE means that, I ACCEPT. Thanks for your response. Get some manners.

get some manners, we are all entitled to our opinions. state yours w/o the name calling, if you can. and btw, she was AWFUL in The Deer Hunter, they should cut all her scenes OUT of the movie immediately. when I watch my favorite film, I wince when she's on.

I have a feeling I might like her in Devil Wears Prada but haven't seen it yet. That one movie where she wears the denim jacket and sings, I can't tell you how many people have told me she reminds them of me. Mostly I'm glad that more people are saying they don't think she's ALL THAT - I just have never understood WHY so many actors say she's their favorite!!! Especially when Jessica Lange's out there acting, for instance.

LOL!, now you're comparing Jessica to Meryl? Meryl's got this amazing career. it's like endlessly long with full of accolades and accomplishments. There are no gaps in between, failures or anything like that. you know what i mean? she is 57 and still gets the best parts for women. i mean, c'mon. i don't think it's that hard to understand why she still is the $hit. Yes, Jessica was a great actor. There is no doubt about it. BUT, her success 40% depended on her look back in those days. she was beautiful, had a tiny nose and was a blondie. but the time passed. she got older. PLUS, she fcked her face up. now obviously she can't get a job in a decent film these days. sad but true. It's Hollywood, unfortunately. yes, there are not many good parts for actresses today. That's also true. And the good ones are mostly taken by those three or four that are Meryl, Blanchett, Kidman and Winslet. but if you're gonna blame the studios and producers for hiring these actresses instead of Jessica, i'd say stop there and think twice. As i said, Jessica was a great actor, oh well actress. but she now somewhat is paying the price for getting somewhere with the look. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying she was famous for being beautiful. But certainly that's how she'll be remembered. Jessica Lange, the beautiful. Meryl Streep, the actress. i do hope you know what i'm trying to say here.
and about Meryl being everyone's favorite why don't you look at it in a different angle? like, i mean why don't you ask yourself what the reason could be that makes you fail to see the "things" that others see in her and you can't instead of asking why they think she's the best out there? you know what i mean? Question yourself why you fail to see what others see. let's see if that would help.
btw, i wanna apologize about the things i said to you before in my previous post. i didn't mean to well, okay, honestly, i did mean it at the time, cos' your comment which i found totally off the point drove me nuts, but i didn't mean to be that mean. So, i'm sorry about that.

I've always failed to see what others see in lots of things. Like Madonna. Like designers who put their name on a white shirt and say they designed the white shirt. Like Pearl Jam. Like Oprah. Etc. And this is the Cazale board, not the Streep fan board. I saw Jessica in Streetcar with Alec Baldwin and Amy Madigan, she was superb. As usual. But this isn't the Jessica fan board either. Awards don't mean much, not these days with the studios and labels and tv stations owning them AND the people they give the awards TO. And I agree when you say Streep's career's been ENDLESSLY LONG, god, yes, I agree, ENDLESSLY. Even without plastic surgery, some people still look rather ugly on screen these days, so that's nothing. I still think most people take whatever's placed in front of them, and say that's their favorite. They look LITTLE, see nothing. It's like, no one else matters, except for whoever the studio shoves down their throat, or the author Oprah tells them to read, or the music played on the radio OVER & OVER.
No need to apologize, I like to argue like this, sides taken, etc. -

She was pretty good in that film with Jack and Fred Gynne, I cant remember the name of it. Late 80's , They were a homeless couple during the depression. Not a great film by any stretch but her performance equaled Jack's.

WOW! With all of the venom you are spewing on this board about Meryl Streep,
I wander what you would have the gall to say to her face to face.
If you don't think she is a good actress, that's ok because you are entitled
to your opinion. But when you criticize her in such a mean spirited way;
I find that hard to understand.

Bring her on. AND I don't think we've been particularly venomous, just truthful. Most people can't HANDLE THE TRUTH. You can't. It's hard for you to understand because you're such a nice person..that you had to come here and comment TO US. Whatever. This is the Cazale board, go to the Streep board.
